the new nforce4 ultra boards only take 24-pin PSU's, and I really need some help finding a good 24-pin PSU. I'd really like to keep it under $100, and i'll be doing some mild overclocking, so here are a few i've picked out, any recommendations? THANKS A TON!

Found another good cheap one
OCZ OCZ45012U ModStream ATX 2.0 450W $80

Ok I guess I kinda narrowed it down myself to either the Sparkle, Enermax or OCZ, however i'm not sure if the Enermax one is 24-pin. Which one should I get?
Dont cut corner with that mobo...get a good psu.

Either or. I don't think you can go wrong with either of the two. I've got a Zippy sealed in a box, so I can't give you any of my opinions on that as of yet. I have heard many good stories of the PCP&C PSUs, but I have no experience with them.

I'm using this one : EG851AX-VH(W)FM (http://www.enermax.com.tw/products_page.php?Tid=1&gon=236&Gid=26&Gid2=35)
Its a server grade PSU and its not cheap.
It works well for me. Has been tested on A8N-SLI and DFI LP NF4 SLI-DR together with FX55, Gskill 1GHz, and 6800GT x2.

thinking of buying a new one too for my dfi nf4 ultra
can anyone tell me if an OCZ 520W is SILENT at high load? (i dont have SLI or gf ultra's, but i do have quite alot of HDs, and im planning a nice watercooled overclock of my winchester)
and if it aint really that silent, can anyone gimme some tips of high end psu's that are more silent?
(price shouldnt be much higher either, that OCZ kinda is my limit allready)

Is that 4 x 12v = 62A total ???

my god, when will people do the math 62x12= way more than the rated 660W psu, which is all it is. Enermax rate the absolutle maximum on each rail when EVERY other rail is at MINIMUM. SO it will only reach max on one rail at a time, the 3.3+ and 5v rail is 240W< so you only get 420W max on the 12v rail, no way in hell will you get 62A, not even close. AS with most psu's ratings don't mean anything. REad user reviews, pretty simple from what i can tell ocz are easily the nicest quality/price ratio, but still expensive enough to be good enough to match the best clocks.
yet another thread in main area shows a 520W psu running an sli rig overclocked. 520W is fine, 600/700W ocz/zippy are fine but are both completely overkill for a x850xt based rig.

Yup, its working great for me. Quiet and very stable.
I tried 8 SATA and all the USB device I can think of all plug on it while OC to 3.3GHz and HTT at 300+, and it doesn't even sweat.

Ya I think anything over a 500W PSU will be overkill for me, since i'm not running SLI, just a 6600GT or X800XL.
I've pretty much narrowed it down now to either OCZ Powerstream 420W, OCZ Modstream 450W, or Antec NeoPower480W. I think i'm just ganna go with the 420W, it's got 30A on the +12v which is more than the 450W, and enough for my rig....

just to clairfy
the new 24-pin specification is backward compatible with the old 20pin!
you don't need an adaptor, you just leave the last four pins empty.
My current motherboard (see my sig), uses the new 24-pin connector and as you can see everything is working phenominally well, with my 20-pin power supply (no adaptor)!

Yup, didn't win the bid. So it's either the
A GPB 500W ($55)
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProdu...ufactory=BROWSE
or Fortron 400W ($85)
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-104-935&depa=0
or OCZ Modstream 450W ($80)
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merc...uct_Code=100176
I don't know if I can trust A GPB, but its the most juice, and a ton cheaper. Should I go for it anyway? 3 year warranty.....

It is good PSU but the problem is one of 12v rail won't be used at all unless you have dual proc mobo... (8pin CPU socket takes one of 12v rail... I think 14A). Still the rest of 3 12v rails are nice but nothing to take home about for the price. Reason why I returned it once I contacted Enermax to find out how the rails are distributed.
And as for zippy OCZ being overkill, some people do get extra mhz for moving from 600 brand PSU to 700w zippy :P (Now these people are on phasecooling, etc) so it all depends on how high you plan to fly really.
3 year warranty on PSU doesn't mean much to me if it plans to take your expensive CPU, GPU, memory, mobo with it if it decides to act up. Do they cover attached components too?
Honestly PSU is one of cheaper component of system and if you are willing to shell out for high end system, get proper PSU and proper UPS to protect it.
Heres zippy700w....

I dunno, the word on DFI-street is that using the mobo with an adapter or anything other than a 24-pin PSU isn't very stable, especially if overclocked 24/7.

I would not use an adapter. A 20-pin PSU should work, but you may run into stability problems because of it.

The Sparkle 550 is pretty sweet. It is a 24 pin unit. I have one coming, bought it for $88 shipped, at ewiz.com. 36A on the 12V rail.

Get this if on budget, the specs blow everything out of the water incluing expensive enermax's and OCZ's..otherwise Zippy or PCP&C

the new 24-pin specification is backward compatible with the old 20pin!
you don't even need to use any kind of adaptor, you just leave the last four pins empty.
I believe the whole reason the 24-pin specification was created, was to eliminate the need for the additional 4-pin 12v connector that has been neccessary on most boards since the early p4's
as long as the board in question has both a 24-pin ATX connector and an additional 4-pin 12v connector, you should be fine..
in the case of the DFI board in question, it does indeed have both 24-pin ATX and 4-pin 12v connectors.
as I don't have any 24-pin power supplies yet, I can't test weather you could go without the additional 4-pin 12v connector, if you were indeed using a native 24-pin power supply.
My current motherboard (see my sig), uses the new 24-pin connector and as you can see everything is working phenominally well, with my 20-pin power supply (no adaptor)!
If thats true couldnt you just take a 24 pin plug and re route the 4 pin plug wires and the 20 pin plug wires to become a 24 pin ? In effect "modding" your 20 pin to 24 pin

It was an educated guess, but looks like i'm mistaken:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=27&threadid=1478987
the additional 4 pins in the specification seem to relate more to the PCIe standard and its power needs. it appears the 4pin +12v connector will remain on all future boards as well.
it wasnt meant to be an attack on you btw, I was just wondering

I'm planning to buy the Antec NeoPower 480W. It supports 24-pin and uses a modular-cable system for better case airflow.
i should have bought that sparkle. i'm stuck with this TTGI.
