It has potential for sure but maybe it's not for me...

I want a quiet system only with air cooling and I can't get this cpu prime stable above 3.75 Ghz. Above 3.3 Ghz it starts 100% throttling when at > 62ÂșC and it won't boot with more than 1.6v. Frequency is not reduced and performance looks the same but ThrottleWatch shows 100% TM1 throttling all the time when running 2 threads of prime95.

My current system is an Asus P4C800-ED with 2x512 Adata 566 TCCD.
I tried 1.45; 1.5; 1.55 and 1.6 vcore with no luck.
At 1.6v the system shuts down after a few mins...
Vagp is 1.6v e and vdimm is 2.85v.
Mem is 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 8, PAT and Hyper-Threading are on.
I use Zalman 7000Cu @ 1900 rpms.

My previous setup for 1 year and a half and 100% prime stable and day to day use was the same motherboard with a P4 2.4C@3.3 Ghz and 2x512 cheap Twinmos DDR400. The cooler is the same.

This is my first prescott experience and I don't if they're all like this E0 but it seems very very sensible to temperatures and voltages changes.

After all i'm disapointed with this cpu that was so hard to find.
Maybe someone can help me to get better results...
Tks a lot (and good hunt if you're on phase change or even water  )

Are you sure the chip is your problem? Rock solid here ~

Well i'm not sure, i'm still testing... But you have a socket 775 cpu, maybe it's not the same... :(

Can you force your cpu to throttle and check when it kicks in?

My apologies, I wasn't reading close enough. sorry!

Well, cooling is an issue with OC'd Prescotts; they are hotter than hell. I'd like to see this thing on water or phase before we cast it back into the OEM tray!

the cooler = the same = stock cooler?
if so, odd, cuz you should of gotten a different cooler with the prescott, not that it's any good but at least it's better then the standard cooler that you will have from your 2.4

eather way, you probably get shut downs because temps are way too high at 1.6V

Another thing is that Asus reads the temps to optimistically : real temps are 5-10°C higher then what asusprobe will display.

did you do a droopmod on your motherboard? because I have the same board and it drops 0.6V or even more with a 2.8A prescott.

Offcourse if you don't want it you can sell it to me :D

As you can see, he is using a Zalman CNPS 7000Cu :) I have at the moment the same cooler and motherboard (w/ droop mod) but with a 3,0E D0, and that won't even pass 3,6 GHz.. (much higher with watercooling) So that cpu is indeed something special! :D I am sceptical to that throttling, since I've never experienced any of that on my D0, even at above 4 GHz.

There is some speak about E0's and throttling elsewere too:

Selling it is an option if I can't stop this problems in a few days...

I don't have the droop mod because i don't know how, i'm an ignorant to electronics and not very good at manual works...

Maybe A64 is the way for me

firestarter.pt Nice to see ya over here also ;) I have a 3.0 D0 that does 3.8 aircooled with default voltage (1.350 bios) I read a thread few weeks back where someone did 3.8 with his sl7pm vcore 1.296 :slobber:

Mine did about 4.2ghz with 1.2v @air. My IC7 maxed out at 320FSB, but the CPU would have done more.
Here are some screenies

As you can see, he is using a Zalman CNPS 7000Cu :) heh, overlooked that, sorry :am:

my 2.8a's won't perform on air eather max stable = 3.6-3.8, depends wich one.
I only read that these things need -130 to -180 to perform optimally AFTER that I bought them :brick:

my 2.8c M0 does 4gig stable on the same board with the same cooler

nice clocks there cold_ice :toast:
