Been toying with it for a while and I stick a 50cfm 80mm sunon on it, didnt do so well..

Put a fan below it with hub removed, did better...

Ducted the empty fan, did even better!

flipped the sunon fan over, did even better!

So, some results ;)

SLK-900U
XP-M 2500+ @ 2600mhz 2.03v (2.00v real load), Ricky tweak.
Abit nF7
Sunon 80mm 50CFM fan + fan with hub removed.

With the sunon blowing (ducted empty fan below) the CPU hit a high of 61c loaded with S&M

With the sunon sucking (ducted empty fan below) the CPU hit a high of 56c loaded with S&M.

As an added benifit the ducted fan housing between the SLK-900U and Sunon 50cfm fan make the sunon nearly as silent as a 60mm 35cfm fan.. pretty good!

Anyone still have one of those older Alpha pin-type heatsinks that worked best with the fan sucking? Maybe putting an empty fan housing between the fan and the heatsink would increase their performance a bit more? ;)

Cool discovery. I am already using an old 120mm fan with over the shell remaining as a duct for my 120x38mm Sanyo Denki on my XP-120. I may try putting it in a pull configuration though now...

hey stevil got pics of that? either it's still to early for me to grab that concept or i just don`t get it. anyway, trying to put it into my words, so i see where i go wrong, if i go wrong. you took the "frame" of a former fan, used it as some sort of airtunnel for the real fan, atop that the sunon in sucky-mode. if that is correct, how does the shroud look? is it going all the way around the slk? or just covering the top sort off?

Pics tomarrow, i've been beating the crud out of this board for a week+ and i'm not gonna stop just now ;)

I used a glue gun to make the empty fan housing into a shroud so all the air is directed. None goes past the sides.

heres a simple diagram.

Red is airflow, dark grey is sunon fan, light grey is empty fan housing, blue are added ducts, and orangy thing is slk-900u.

I tried placing a fan (hub removed) below the delta (both 80mm) that I have on the SLK-900A, it actually made the performance worse by a few degrees although I ain't tried it running in suck mode.

EDIT

if you are wondering a out the metal bar with a bolt welded to the end of it (two actually, one each end), thats my 754/939 adaptor for the SLK-900U ;)

i thought you were supposed to suck air out?

thats how i had it whenever i didn't use stock hsf. i think stock hsf blows air in though.

Most (98%+) blow into the heatsink. This is why you try different things ;)
