Hi friends, i have just finished a chiller  , but i have some questions, if you can help me:
1 - the compressor is extremely hot, like the high stage hose. Is this normal ?
2 - after some hours i can hear a strange sound that came from the compressor, like a dumpening water..
It is a 1/4 Hp R12 charged with R22.

I can reach -30 C without any heat load...

Compressor is hot because you aren't cooling him. Cool him with fan or he will burn.

Flip filter's outlet by 45 degrees to down.

Sounds like a dumpeing water? I dunno what is this, maybe it is liquid gas..

oh by the way marvin you have hooked up the service tube (5/16") as your suction line. It wil work but the other tube on the opposite side of the compressor is the proper suction (3/8").

Is that standard practice? because the VAPO chill is set up the same as his chiller...

Well if its hooked up with the smaller service tube as the suction its wrong.

Because of oil's returning to compressor?

Sorry for the lack of response...
I did some mods on my chiller :
1 - Improved the airflow to condenser, because the air was to warm...
2 - Put a fan throwing air to compressor
3 - turned down the filter a bit
IT semms the problem gone, unless the high stage temp....
gkiing, i think the service line can be used like the succion, all have the same tube (1/4). :D

But the problem is insulating the block. Even with Neoprene in am having condensation problems..
I have read all insulation threads but the block is condensating.

you need more insualtion :D

Why those water block nipples have a flared ends? I'm sure it make worse tightness

And insulatio - as JSU said, add more insulation - I suggest to add second tube instulation for pipes

I think its a DIY block and the ends are just copper tubes which were flared at the end to make it a tight fit to the hose.
