View Full Version : Anybody have these fans?
http://www.thermaltake.com/dcfans/led/thunderblade120.htm
these fans look as if they are mis-advertised. 78CFM and only 21dB? that is so much better CFM/dB ratio than any other fan on the market. 21dB is silent as far as i'm concerned, i have a 35dB fan that i think is pretty quiet.
so has anybody have any experience with these? i think i might buy one when the blue is available at newegg.

I have the 80mm versions...theyre pretty noisy, but that may because of the restricted airflow or the fact that theyre plugged into a fan controller.
Beware,...these fans can only be used as cpu fans or exhasut fans. Only one side has screw holes. I had to mount mine with zip ties
hmm... they are rated for the same dB, the 80 and 120mm. eh, for only 8$ or so + shipping i might as well try it out. it would be for my xp-120 if it turns out to be better than my 92mm sanyo 55cfm 35dB.
i guess i' give it a shot.
i have my pc on a self-made shelf, 2 tiered, and open with columns and not side panels, so its very open so there wouldn't be any restriction. and it wouldn't be hooked up to a fan controller.
i'll order one of these fans and report back with their performance and noise.

Ya, perhaps you're right, but when you work all day, atleast 8h, normally for me is 10h/day, with a noisier PC with 3 fans inside + CPU fan + VGA fan + chip fan, you tend to hate the noise they do, so buying a silent fan for 15$ is nothing I paid mine for about 25$ and I wanted some Noiseblocker (i think the best around concerning silent fans) that would cost me 25€ I say EUR not USD, and when I arrive home I tend to stay even some time in my PC playing or surfing, do you imagine 15h or + by day with noisier fans, hell no, I can't support anymore the noise of the fans, though now I'm in wc, way less problems.

the problem i keep having is finding quiet fans...
the so called 21dba fans i bought are noisy as hell. is it because some of the airflow is being blocked by the front of the lian li?
What do i need to look for in quiet fans besides just DBA, because obviously there are other things. I just need some fans that push more than 20cfm and are INAUDIBLE from 2 feet away.

Did you saw my post (#4) ?

yea, but im not really looking to spend 15$ per fan, especially when you have 4 fans per pc. that will be my last option though.
how is this???

edit: those silentx fans do look really really nice.
previously in customers computers, i was using http://www.svcompucycle.com/arcoolarfant.html but it seems like it stays in 10dba mode forever...pushing no air.
should i buy faster fans that have a good noise to cfm ratio and hook them up to a fan controller?

I soooo feel you!
to be honest the thermaltake "21db" fans aren't really 21db. the zalman 7700 is rated around 20db as well and I can hear that the thermaltake fan is louder.
for me, relocating my main rig and buying a new one with an XP-M and removing the fan from my PSU did the trick. of course not everybody got that option.

@kobalt
the 2nd choice it's out of stock, nevertheless I would prefer zalman for the price/performance.
it's all up to you
zalman 80mm = 20dba / 20cfm = 34dba / 36.5cfm = 3.9USD
silentx 80mm = 14dba / 28cfm = 13.95USD

SilenX fans are perfect! They are the quietest fans I have come across. Also, keep in mind that the decibel scale is logarithmic, so 21dB can be several times louder than 20dB. See SilenX fans here: http://www.bigfootcomputers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=Bigfoot&Category_Code=700.42

Yea I know its out of stock, but i was just showing you what i have ordered in the past. Ithink i will use the zalmans on customers pc's and get some silentx for myself. It depends how quiet the zalmans are. If i can hear them at all from 2 feet away, I will simply go back to the temperature controlled fans.
about the silentx...would the 120mm fans be good for aircooling the rad in watercooling? Or not enough airflow?

DONT buy them thunderblades, there in my thermaltake case, gee loud as hell yes same 21db rating same as side 90mm and silentcat90mm but they aint cause the 2x 120mm are noisey no way their 21db im binning to get new led 120mm silent x with mobo sensing wires so i see rpm.
The silentcat 90mm btw is prob the best fan in the world for cpu heatsink and its near silent.

That is a question for MaxxxRaccer!!! :p:
thanks for the link, i'd only be buying one fan, and since my pc is ran in a shelf, it would be the only fan, other than psu and vga fan. my psu is the TTGI modular, so it can be pretty quiet on auto fan, and silent mode.
for 25$ its not too bad if the fan lasts for a long time, and 58CFM for a true 14dB rating, not the bs 21dB that TT gives, i'd be more than happy to take.
