got one off ebay...tis pro ^^ Lapped the CPU IHS last night...need to do the heatsink itself..so it's got no Arctic silver inbetween :P max temp 53 degrees Goes up to 3.5 ghz on stock voltage. But ram falls out at about 260 fsb 1:1 Crucial BallistiX 512 mb pc3200. May try to tighten some timings when i get home tonight ^^. Running 3.38 ghz so i can run my ram 1:1..need to finally upgrade to win XP..win2000 pro no HT optimizations :( Pretty pleased with this ebay bought 2.6C Can't remember the batch off the top of my head (at school) something like sl6wh (wj?) from what i've heard, a very good batch...obviously malay ^^ Not sure how to work at 3.5 ghz and higher with my ram, unless i do some IC7-G mobo mods. But I'm scared of those :P cutting PCB traces etc...big learning curve...

Sounds like a nice find!! :)

yeah..brilliant find. Trying to beat my friends stock DDR 2 pci express computer from dell... His ram is the standard pc4200 ddr 2 stuff...i'm sure my low latencies already beat his..I'm running my crucial ballistix ddr 520 (about pc4100) But that seems pretty much as far as any crucial ballistix i've seen. All i need is an extra 7 mhz fsb :P

2K is still better for a P4C.

Thanks for the info, But i won't be able to multitask as well on 2k will I? Or is running forced ACPI multiprocessor on windows 2000 ok? I'd prefer general performance over 400 random 3dmarks..Anyone know what the RAM utilization differences are from win 2000 pro to XP pro are? I know XP is faster...but uses a lot more ram, but how much? I only have 512 mb, so i value it quite highly.

2K with HT is better for general performance, for gaming and benching 2K with HT disabled is better.
There is really no benefit for XP with HT enabled over 2K wit HT enabled, XP just detects it, 2K handles it just as well, you just need to manually set your system to multiprocessor. (which you should have done anywhys from the ricky tweak)
[new theory]
Hey, I wonder how many people that reported performance increases in XP by enabling HT were just the increases of being in multiproc mode? We didn't know about the tweak back then, we just knew that multiproc mode needed to be used for HT.
[/new theory]
I just came up with that as I was typing, so it's not tested yet, but it seems reasonable

Thanks again for the info, much appreciated, I guess I'll stick with windows 2000 pro then ^^ from official microsoft sites etc. I was under the impression the lack of 2000 optimizations which XP had made a large difference. Going to keep HT on, I can't really afford new ram, already new, and 260fsb isn't too shabby anyway :P, I think 260 ram fsb is more benificial to me than 3.5GHZ + with ram only running about 217 mhz. So, I'll probably stick with my crucial ballistix and 3.38 ghz clock speed. Can't afford some new fancy ram anyway, saving up to get a 6800GT (over a mx440 SE) Then i can finally run 3dmark without embarressing 3dmark scores. (stupid Shyte Edition graphics card :P). Maybe when I've lapped my heatsink and put some AS3 left overs i still have inbetween, I'll just make my RAM divider 5:4 and just raise cpu voltage and increase it until full load temps get too high or cpu gets unstable :P run a few super pi benchies for the sake of it...and just say, "I got THIS high" Can't say a coolermaster IHC-L71 heatsink is the best candidate for the job tbh....but hey, made my own 70-80mm fan adaptor and stuck on a thermaltake smart case fan II (don't care what you think of thermaltake and their taccy products... Smart Case Fan 2 is damn good.....rebranded product :P)

What does MS sell? :D

One small question. Sisandra, i know doesn't really have any relevance to things but this is for peace of mind. I'm only running single channel 512 mb atm
crucial ballistix pc3200 @
ddr 526 2.5-7-3-3 1T timings and i get about 3600-3700 mb/s on buffered memory bandwidth test on sisandra... My friend with his amd 3200 + gets like high 4000's and 5000's dual channeling.
Does dual channeling really make that much more theoretical bandwidth ?
ie 3700 mb/s single channel
vs 5000mb/s dual channel.
in sisandra

yep, Dual channel makes that much difference. Its not like the AXP where dual channel does next to nothing. the Pentium 4As with there 400mhz FSB have a max bandwidth of 3.2gb and the Pentium 4C has 6.4gb...at stock. Once you overclock its even better. Pentium 4s love lots of bandwidth.
