with sonoma imminent, there are already whispers about intel's next mobile line codenamed "Napa".

this is what The Inquirer said about sonoma:

Hyperthreading wasn't added because Intel wanted to keep to its launch schedule for Sonoma. "Napa" will take advantage of such technology, said Greenhalgh.

so from that info we can take it "Napa" won't be dual-core, the upcoming intel X20 X30 and X40 dual-core processors do not have HT enabled, so that is where i derive my information.
i could be wrong though, anyone want to run 4 threads/applications simultaneously on a laptop?

hopefully we can expect 800 FSB and faster DDR-2 support though.

Napa is dual core Dothan to run on Yonah, DC DDR2 hopefully we will see 1066FSB on this.

features and power consumed leads me to believe it will be targeted at desktop

I doubt Napa will have HT but that may change.

if it's a dual core, doesn't that pretty much negate the need for HT?

two is better than one...four is better than two :)

2 virtual processors and 2 real processors. is this even compatable with dual core technology?
