Hiy
I need some advice
My SLI setup (look sig) is scoring a bit low i think
for the record everything is installed properly.
**Strong PSU
**12V molex on mobo
**SLI enabled in bios
**Dual VGA socket card is installed
**Drivers 66.93
**SLI bridge on cards connected
So it does work in SLI :)
My CPU runs @ 280 * 9 = 2530Mhz @ 1:1
My score is 10500 3DMarks03
NO oc @ the core or mem on Gfx cards...
I think its a bit low... i expected around 12k-13k like i saw in the review on AMD zone they used the same cards, same drivers, they only used 512Mb ram more... but @DDR400 while mine is DDR566
They got 137k...
I have monitored my cards and they are running @ 500Mhz core during the bench so no lowering of core speeds...
I realy cant believe that 512Mb extra ram pushes your score with 3000 point :s
What could this be...

maybe they used a more powerfull CPU and better memory speeds or something? 05 is actually a better test of GPU power

ram timings?

I run @ 280 * 9 that is 130Mhz more than the proc the tested with and he ran only @ 200 HTT * 12 (3800+)
Timings are 2.5-4-4-8
But i dont think better timings wil give 3000 points more :(

same processor?, drivers?
AsEeL
01-18-2005, 02:20 PM
Yes as i said already...
AMD64 3800 S939 the used @ STOCK speeds
I have an AMD3200 S939 running @ AMD 4000+
I even run my memory @ 2000Mb/s more and i even run it at higher speeds
Tey used the SAME Graphic cards with the same drivers...
So i cant understand why i score 3000 points less
And yes my setup IS running in SLI

Definitely something wrong. I get 13240 with a stock 3200+ and 2 6600GT stock as well. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3586545 With just one card I get about 9800. Maybe try and reinstall the drivers because something isn't working right.

What kind of powersuply do you use?
You score better indeed
Yes i turned of Vsync, AA, AF, and set system to performance
I just had a clean install

I'm using a OCZ 470W PowerStream. Do you have the coolbits feature enabled? There is an option at the bottom of the advanced settigns foe single or multi GPu rendering.

Maybe my PSU is too weak...
I have a 380W with
3.3V = 28A
5.0V = 35A
12 V = 24A
coolbits feature enabled
Where can i see thath?

Fixed the pic Your PSU could be too weak. 380W is not a lot for so much stuff. If you have another one to try it may be worth while.

afaik you can run sli in 2 different modes:
-one card renders upper half of the scree and the other one the lower half
http://www.tomshardware.de/graphic/20041123/images/sfr-mode.jpg
-one card renders the even lines and the other card the odd ones
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040628/images/sli-3dfx.jpg
maybe your system was running the first mode. i.e. in a scene with a big empty sky in the upper half of the screen this could result in lower perf than mode 2

I believe the two methods of rendering are AFR Alternate Frame Rendering where one card renders all even frames and the other all odd frames and the second is SFR Split Frame Rendering which is as it sounds one card renders top half of the screen and the other one the bottom half.

ur probably right.
but performance wise it should have a very similar result.

well it depends whats on the top and bottom part of the screen....

You never belief this
I came back from school (hadn't turned of my computer after the last bench this night and runned 3dmark03 again...
WTF its again scoring low :s
I realy dont understand this... i tried reinstalling rivatuner and enabling everything again but it just doesnt work...

I found out the problem.
My Nforce4 chipset is due to the overclocking (280HTT) very hot!!!
When it was very cold in my chamber this night i could run without problems, but this afternoon it was pretty hot inhere and my score went down again.
So i cooled the chipset by a heardrier that blows cold air and my score went up againg to 135k :)
I should look for a better chipset kooling i guess :D
This could explain why i also cant overclock any higher :)

so nf4 has thermal throttleing!?

In fact, SLI runs in either of two modes, and neither mode is compatible with all existing applications. The first of those two modes is known as alternate frame rendering, or AFR for short. AFR distributes the graphics load between two GPUs by having each GPU render every other frame in a scene, so that GPU 0 would render frames 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, while GPU 1 would render frames 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. By buffering a couple of frames ahead of what's being output to screen, AFR can distribute the graphics load quite evenly—simple and clean.
SLI's other, more compatible mode is known as split-frame rendering or SFR. SFR subdivides the screen and renders part of each frame on each GPU. With what NVIDIA refers to as "balanced loading" active, SFR dynamically subdivides the screen in different proportions in response to graphics load.
Even with balanced loading, SFR doesn't typically scale as well as AFR. AFR better distributes the vertex processing load and is more likely to achieve a near-2X performance speedup. However, SFR is more broadly compatible than AFR.
This seems to be a pretty good explaination of how SLi works. From The Tech Report.

Wow you are right the nForce4 chipset does run very hot. I measured the temp of the chipset with a K type thermocouple at 41C. This is at stock speed. That crappy little cooler just can't handle the heat.

Ya i read something about the hot chipset temps of the nForce4 motherboards..
a german Hardware mag tested some available boards with nforce4 chips:
all temps @ stock:
Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe = 39° / 102° F
Msi K8N Diamond = 48° / 120° F
Msi K8N Neo4 Plat. = 39° / 102° F
Gigabyte K8NXP-Sli = 44° / 111° F
these chips get really hot even when non-overclocked....

so nf4 has thermal throttleing!?
looks like it... or atleast performance goes down. does it run prime95 stable when hot?

Dear AsEel,
Mind you telling me what kind of option which you are enabled in Rivatuner?
I also have same problem with you...... :(

Hmm.
According to Smart Guardian which I trust about as much as a life-time sentenced prisoner my LOAD temps are just under 50C. Shame I can't water cool the chipset on my NF4 :(
