View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a water chiller?

I figure by the time I spend the money to buy an AC unit, a radiator, a pump, and anything else I'll need, I'll have spent enough money to buy a good water chiller. Can anyone recommend a water chiller up to the task of chilling water to the point where it will effectively cool my CPU and GPU, without being cold enough for condensation to be an issue in room temperature?

This one any good? Thats just a little more than I'd spend with all the other stuff.

If the temperatures of your water go below ambient temperatures, there will be condensation problems. If you want to be closer to room temperature, get a better pump or a larger radiator. There is no real reason to buy that unless you're going to be chilling your fish tank for your fish.

If you're going to go the full blown chiller route, that will not suffice for a CPU/GPU system. You're going to need at least a 5150btu air conditioning system if you're going that route.

How close to ambient can a non-chilled water system get anyway?

Condensation will start to form whenever you get the temperature below the dew point inside your house. It isn't the same as the dew point outside.

To find out what your dew point is, do a search, there's plenty of resources for it.

Infinately close, given a large enough radiator. Most people compromise and accept a few degrees above ambient though in exchange for a smaller radiator.

So the chiller I posted would be fine? What about the one below? Is this one any good for the type of cooling you just described?

It might work since it's 1/5hp, but an ideal cpu/gpu chiller is 1/4hp+ with r290/r507/r404a. You could buy that and regass it to r507, the lowest temerature your going to get with r134a is about -25C.

If you want to buy a pre-made chiller ready to go I suggest you send a pm to Chilly1 as he will build you one much better than the aquarium one that is designed for cpu/gpu chilling.

For more or for less $$$? Just took my truck to the shop an hour ago.... looks like I'll have to be more careful with my money for the next month or so.... *sigh*

I can't say but you should send him a pm to find out. His work is top notch.

Read, comprehend, then post.

Seriously though, no it won't. As was already explained, its much too weak. Its also very expensive and not really meant for what you want. Either make your own, or buy one from chilly.
