Wow... things are getting alittle ridiculous for overclocking lately.
a week or so ago, I was impressed with the Gigabyte Dual Core GD1 6600GT.
however, I was alittle bummed about the fact you can't use that card in SLI options... or Quad core designs...

well aparantly ASUS is all over this... and making thier own Dual Core 6600GT... but it can be used in a SLI configuration, that means Quad Core stuff is nearly real... thats insane.

Imagine 2 Dual Core Videocards, in your SLI set up...

that almost just sounds nutty.

anandtech wasn't impressed with the GD1, but I sure was.
no idea why they weren't...
SLI performance, from a single card?
oh well, to each his own.

I saw this card over at www.hw.no .. Looks cool indeed!

Watercooling must be expensive, 4 blocks :D

it really is going to be insane, especially if they figure out a way to get sli dual ultras

Lol, do any of you ever read the front page news? I made a post on this just a few days ago. :P

are the 2 cards actually in SLI or are they just running 2 cards for more displays?

Well the Giga 3D1 was basically equal in price and peformance to a 6800GT, right? (I haven't looked into it at all). If so, there is not too much point to the unique 3D1.

I want to see a dualcore 6800 GT/Ultra :D But even that would lose some of its effectiveness if it cost the same and peformed the same as a 6800GT SLI setup.

My link goes straight to the forums, lol

There is a sli connector, look on the top left of the front. It will use a ribbon connector.

No, the 6800GT is superior, especially if you up the res and aa/af

well it's comparable at 1280/1024 and 1600/1200 but when you enable all the bells and whistles it looses to 6800GT. Still, not a bad card i would say. Four cores would defo be a sweet gaming setup.

well four cores on two cards would probably give you a hard time trying to get a decent oc. two cores on the same card might already be good for a headache trying to oc them to the same levels. with this in mind, i would be interested in the actual pricing of this card. if it is the same or only slightly less than a regular gt, i don't see the point of it - for above mentioned reasons.
now a dual-core 6800gt or ultra would be something different, though that would be a challenge to cool...

But then four cores and 512MB/1024MB of memory would eat regular SLI or a single Ultra for breakfast don't ya think?

The current SLi setup either splits the screen dymanically in half or renders alternative frame, so how do four gpu's work ? Maybe both ?

The thing is all depends on nvidia's drivers, so you would have to wait for 4 cards to be supported, maybe this will happen when r520 comes out. I'm dubious about Anandtech's assertion that you can run two of these in a motherboard, what they actually mean is you can put two of them in two PCi slots and take a photo.....

Another unknown is why are all these dual cards 6600GT's and not 6800U's ? Is it because of the power requirements / PCB constraints ?

It'll be interesting how this all pans out. Even if two of these cannot be done together come spring nvidia will has SLi 2 x 24 pipe cards ( nv47/48) v Ati R520.

Should be a good battle.

Andy

Probably cooling restraints, and who's going to buy a 1000$ videocard that will oc like crap with anything less than extreme water or phase changer due to heat limitations, and you can't put them in a quad setup I'm betting dispite what anandtech thinks. And I don't know how much power the two 6800 ultras would require, like what, 3 molexes or something lol.
