View Full Version : Vdimm Kill Winchester?
I have heard about Vdimm hurting/killing Winchesters is this true?
I had an A64 system running at 300x9 for a few days stable.. The Vcore was below 1.7 but the Vdimm was around 3.6v. All the sudden one day, it crashed. Now that system is not stable at high FSB like anything above 240.. I tried tons of sets of memory and it's not that.. even mem that runs at 300+ 1/1 will not run at 250 stable.
Did the high Vdimm mess up the cpu?
I will try another Winchester in the same setup and see if it works stable high fsb.. but the only other one i have right now sucks high htt already.

As the VDimm goes straight into the CPU nowadays and the Winnies being 90nm parts that have lower voltage levels than 130nm there is a good chance to ruin it with obscene VDimm voltages. AMD states an absolut maximum rating of 2.9V for the memory controller on the Winchesters...

if thats true isnt the new DFI just gonna kill loads of winchesters?

I don't think DFI creates a mobo that kills the CPU.
The LP nforce 4 can give up to 4v to the cpu and I didn't see any killed winchester.
(sorry for my english!!!)

Where is the AMD literature on vdimm recomendations?

Few have had a chance to use it... We don't know yet.

PLENTY of people have been using huge voltage for their VX/bh-5 and winchesters, high vdimm DOES NOT kill cpu's directly.
Something that has killed winchesters is bad vmods, irratically jumping vdimm and vcore from boards that don't mod "that" safely, and hasn't been seen since people made safer vmods and was almost entirely down to the shuttle nf3 150 board.

In Italy there are some ones yet.
I think in USA and taiwan there are many dfi in use... ;)
