I've got this MP3 Player.. it's not exactly the best of the best... in fact, it's downright cheap.... but it does the job and it does it well!

It's a Perception Digital PD-1000 (2GB)

It works like a dream... and I load it up with some fresh MP3's from my PC at work every now and then. I have just finished setting up my PC at home... using a DFI KT600-AL mobo... and when I plug my MP3 player into it... it detects there is new hardware.... but instead of just installing it as a new drive... it gets an exclamation mark beside it... and I cannot access it.

I didn't have to install any drivers at work... what could be the reason?
My work PC is an old PIII on a SIS motherboard.
Both are running Win2K SP4

Help!

ive had bad experience with win2k and hot swappable (USB) drive detection, some seem to find the drives and other not. Windows Xp seems to have sleared up this issue.

Really don't want to have to install WinXP... MY system isn't really super fast as it is... it'll be even slower with WinXP... any other ideas?

if the ports are usb 2.0, try forcing it to usb 1.1 in the BIOS. if you have front ports, try the rear ones too.

i dont think your system performance will take a bad hit from win XP. Ia long as you have a pentium 3 proc or higher, or an amd athlon (some Durons even work) you should be fine, all you have to do is turn off all of the stuff that or more aesthetically pleasing than performance based. If you dont want to spend the money that is another issue....

Got it working!

Seems to work on the front USB ports but not the back... Weird!
Anyway... that's fine by me... problem solved!
