I just had a great idea. So far the problem with the X-Connect is that its all about cosmetics, convenience, and wire management.... but not so hot when you take a look under the hood.

This is my idea. How about taking the engine out of the best performing PSU money can buy no matter how unimpressive it looks, then drop it in an X-Connect! You get top notch performance, a great looking unit, and a great wiring system! Hell, bring it up to 600W! Not only that but also put some good quality fans in it. Personally, I think this would be a great mod.

Why would someone want to spend the money? Well I got the X-Connect at an employee discount through my step dad, so it was about 1/3 less than normal.

Whata'ya guys think?

I don't think its as easy as it sounds. Putting in VRs to change rails is one thing, but disesembling a whole PSU and re-wiring it in a nother case sounds like an explosion waiting to happen.

Im simply suggesting taking the better performing psu out of its casing as a whole unit, then dropping it in the X-Connect case. The output wires would be cut and soddered onto the output plugs instead of that mess sticking out the back. I don't think its as bad as your imagining it to be. It's actually quite simple. No changes occur to the electrical work on the interior of the psu, only the output wires are changed, and only so they can be soddered onto the plugs on the back of the X-Connect. Its no different than cutting the output wires in half, then putting a connector at either cut end and snapping it back together. You see what Im saying?

Whats the x-connect got that these donor ones havent? You end up using almost all of the modular cables anyways so I dont see the point of going modular to start with.. ;)

 I agree with STEvil I bought one and just ending up using all of the cables anyways. Might as well just make it easier for cosmetics and sleeve it.

Even if you DO go ahead with the mod ...most high performance PSU's (OZC Powerstrem, emac/zippy's, PCP & C ...) are all bigger than the X-connect. They simply wont fit in the case.

Get this:

http://www.frozencpu.com/psu-111.html

Just mod the original PSU (non-modular) and keep the X-Connect for e.g. testing purposes...

Thanks everyone! Im going to wait to by my PSU as the last component. With any luck, maybe something will come out by then and I won't need it. Otherwise, I'll get this kit after I've had my PSU for a few months long enough to put it to the test and see if anything goes wrong first. That way I don't void my warrenty if it breaks soon after I get it.
