Hi, :)
I want to upgrade my speakers (currently with Inspire6600 6.1  serves me pretty good in games though) to a newer/better set.
Which set would you choose:
- Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra
- Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1
- Logitech Z-5500 5.1 (Newest highend set from Logitech, better than the older Z-680)
Basicly I'm leaning towards the Gigaworks because of the rear center, which rox in games, altough I prefer quality over power so I have no problem to get Klipsch or Logitech.
Which set do you prefer / recommend?
Thanks in advance,
Swing

So you can buy a switcher from 110v to 220v...
But why Klipsch?

i would buy, if i had the money  , the "teufel system 5 thx-select concert 5.1". its a wonderfull system with very good sound, but also very expensive (1750€).
from your list, i would take the logitech. i really like how it looks and the sound also should be good!

1750€... Bahhh that's way too expensive for me.
I can choose only from this certain list!

I voted for the Logitech Speakers as they're reasonably priced here in AUS.
Plus it's very hard to get a hold of the Klipsch speakers here in OZ...
The Creative GigaWorks doesn't even register in this equation to me...
So, my list goes like this:
1.) Logitech
2.) Klipsch
3.) Creative (only because it's listed here, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with it)...
Might sound like I have a gridge against the Creative Speaker... I do...
Had a set a while back, worst choice in speakers ever...
My 2 cents..
Minnyboy
Creative speakers are all driver dependant, get Logitech.. the real hardcore hardware speakers..

Klipsch. I love my 5.1's.
I have an old pair of Klipsch speakers with a Carver amp.....those things will make your ears bleed halfway up the volume knob. Hooking them up to the computer would be pure insanity. I must do it :toast:

For the Klipsch owners:
Which set's are we talking about? Promedia 5.1, Ultra or not?
And how is the subwoofer? very important to me.

because of you crazy (xtreme??!) folks, i found www.3dss.com
they have great reviews of lots of computer-sound hard/softwares. they've done reviews of all the speakers you're interested in. what it comes down to are your tastes and what you plan on using them for.
if you want digital inputs, the klipsch are out for sure.

of the 3 you're interested in, the klipsch is the only setup that has dedicated tweeters in the satellites. if you like crisp highs or listen to music a lot, these would be the ones to go with.

according to this: http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=712&s=specs
INPUTS:
Six analog discrete channels (three stereo miniplugs), Auxiliary stereo miniplug music input
although, their promedia GMX line does. i wonder whats lost in these besides the money involved...oh yeah, quality. http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=525&s=specs

Would be a tight race between Logitech and Klipsch..
Unfortunately both are tuned to around 28hz for the subwoofer IIRC, and do not feature a subsonic filter to the best of my knowledge.
Computer speakers still have a long ways to go before they are worth it I think. Last set I bought were Logitech Z-560's and anything under ~32hz the sub would get trashed pretty easily (its not exactly a high performance sub).. 560's are dead now since I tried hooking up a RF 12" HE2 to the amp for fun (flames shooting from mosfets is fun, I swear!!).. Friend has the 5500's and they sound very nice, but again if you play something with low frequencies the sub bottoms out and such.. Was a big thread about this in hardforums where people were comparing Klipsch to Logitech and a few custom HT people chiming in.. Do they have problems overheating like the 560's did?
Really, if you want quality just hit up a pawn shop ;)
Grabbed a pair of Optimus 5B speakers ($20), a Sony STR-DE595 reciever ($170), Clarion 1001.2 amp ($170) for sub (using Antec 400w smartpower to power it), and a Rockford Fosgate 12" Punch HE2 with carpeted sealed cabinet ($100) for a grand total of $460 cdn and it blows most of what you can buy out of the water..
Also using the 4x satellites from the dead 560's for rear and center channels.
Now this is of course may not be a viable option for you, but I bought the parts for this over a time span of about 5 months.. it has been well worth the wait and should be even better after I have built a new custom box for my 15" Cerwin Vega 158.. ;) ;)

I made my personal buying decision after frequenting many stores to listen and by reading many reviews on each of the said brands. To my ears, Logitech makes great sound for pretty much any budget, and the models scale nicely with the price. Sure, the subs are warmer on Klipsch...But I think everything else sounds better in the Logitech dept.
The gigaworks is really awesome sounding, but I don't think it's justified in it's cost at all. If you want something like that, then you're better off making a custom set like Steve mentioned.

Thanks for your great comments I really appreciate that.
Unfortunately STEvil, I don't have that kind of budget to invest (on speakers...), and I have a limited assortment of shops I can buy from.
So to sum this up, the Logitech's will be the better set for gaming and movies, while the Klipsch will be better for music because of the sub?
Only the fact that you can find the Logitech at 150$ less makes me wanna go and buy 'em immediately, but I'm still not sure so I need more advices. And remember, gaming is the most important thing to me.
Thanks :banana4:
Best regards

For the price difference and quality difference i'd take the logitechs. Computer speakers just arent good enough to buy the "top end".. at least to me ;)

klipsch 5.1 ultras hands down
the satellites for klipschs walk all over the logitechs. while the sub for the z680s may be more boom boom. The klipsch sub is deeper, warmer and tighter - and when was the last time that something deep, warm, and tight did you wrong? ;)
i have heard both and own the klipsch and unless you have eardrum scarring i really dont see how people can say that logitech speakers outperform or at best compare to klipsch...

i own the klipsch 5.1's and agree with what's been said before. i'd like to add however, that i bought mine refurbished from the klipsch online store. saved myself a bundle. they were in perfect condition, no scratches etc except they were missing a digital cable to connect to the audigy2 which i bought at radio shack for a few bucks.

Currently it's a tie between Klipsch and Logitech.
The only thing that annoys me is that the Promedia's don't have a digital output, for that price they should've include that... :D

I had my bro buy some z5500 digis and at $279 they absolutely RIP. I don't think you are going to hear much difference vs. the klipsch at $340 is is $60 more and the controls look like crap.
The only thing the klipsch have over the logitechs is that the rear speakers are not connected permanently but instead use speaker wire. For $340 bucks klipsch could have done a better job but then again klipsch was never a computer speaker company to begin with. I have a 12" $1000 klipsch sub for my home theater system that I would put up against subs costing twice as much but when it comes to computer audio get the z5500's. They have an awesom digital readout and a remote control to boot and when you pull out the sub you will $hit your pants when that 10" pounds out some serious bass.

(Didn't find anything at 3dss.com!)3dss has a review of the klipsch units. it's a shame they haven't done any more current reviews of logitech stuff. i hate reading reviews like, "OMG DUDA THESE SPEAKERS ROCK IN CS!!" or "THE SUB IS AWESOME! The speakers can play really loud!"
any place i can go to check them out is too loud for me to give a critical listen.
i found this link back in septermber. maybe it'll be as helpful to you. http://www.ecoustics.com/Editorial/Reviews/Multimedia_Speaker_or_Computer_Speaker/
