maybe a danner or an eheim one would be fine.

Damn..... so the only way to do it is to either take up a new trade and spend days and days and days working my ass off, or spend lots of money. Theres got to be a better alternative than those two options.... isn't there???

What about buying a mini freezer, and placing a row of 120mm radiators in a line with a fan at either end of them? Hey... I could have a place to put drinks. :D Or even freezing tubing in a deep tray of ice in the freezer?

I wouldnt call having a hobby "working my ass off." Think you are looking at things in the wrong light. If you dont like doing this stuff, maybe you shouldnt :stick:

hmm so im guessing no1 has any suggestions... hmm well maybe just a good insulation job on the pump will do i think ive seen that on a few projects...

Insulation won't help your pump go to lower temperatures; condensation isn't going to hurt a pump, it's meant for wet conditions. You need a pump with an impeller made of plastic that doesn't get brittle at low temperatures. Most pumps' specs will tell you the minimum fluid temperature.

MCP650 BY SWIFTECH
IT TOTALLY ROCKS
U WILL LOSE 12c off the cpu temp
i did at least
and more if the pad is real cold
check out my other post on this issue

FF, look at the forum you're in. If you check the front of the MCP650 you'll see that it's plastic. In -40C temps that seem average for chillers here, that pump probably crack.

I have an Iwaki wmd20 running chilled coolant. Seems to be doing just fine. The snout of the pump is alot thicker than eheim, mag etc. I cracked a 1048 and a mag 3 before I bought the iwaki. Definitely worth the money. The flow is also incredible.

An iwaki would be good, but eheims are plastic and also notorious for cracking along the inlet/outlet barbs, not even at sub zero temperatures.

You could always change the inlet/ outlet fittings with brass fittings for the ehiem pump. :D

That is usually the cause of cracking. Eheims and fittings are picky. Plus its all plastic :stick:

Well to answer your original question, a good pump for a chiller set-up is a fast one. High flow rate will really help you get those fluid temps down. If you can find a good little giant or iwaki pump designed for chemicals that would probably suit you. They're seal-less pumps and can push alot of water. Their aquarium pumps might be able to handle it too, but I'd have to check into that.

These things are expensive though. The highest 1/2" outlet pump pushes 850GPH

Iwaki makes quality pumps, and remember, you get what you pay for.

Both Little Giant Pump Co, and Iwaki make quality pumps.

battle of the pumps!.. lol

I still favour iwaki, but have never used a little giant. By the way the Iwaki japan made pumps (MD series) are better than the american made ones (WMD series).

Yes.. look at the model number it will be something like

WMD-20RZT or MD-20RZT

They must, I have one
WMD-20RLT
8.1 gal/min
14.1 ft max head

The WMD series has an american made motor. Some say they are a little noisier. I don't have both so can't compare. This pump is definitely up to the task for chilled usage. No leaks here 4 months @ -29C
