Hey all,

just received 8 OCZ heat sinks today, for my neo2 plat board.. just wondering... which MOSFETS or chips i can place these on to stop overheating and screaming when over clocking!

do they need them? is it a good idea?

please could someone use a picture of the board to mark out heat sink needing chips!

CHEERS!!!

Yeap tends to be a good idea, MSI, Gigabyte, ABIT and ASUS use Heatsinks on them with their nerwer nForce 4 boards. So if it is becoming mainstream then it tends to mean yes.

ASUS has heat sinks

MSI has Heat pipes

right, so just on the Power MOSFETS then? or anywhere else? lol.... i might get a bit carried away.. :D

that sqeeling is the inductor coils and are a pita to quiet down :(.

as for mosfets sinks 100% overkill really and not needed at all a good fan blowing over the area is alot more effecaint.

They maybe using thermal tape or something for them.

well its sinks or fan. i would think sinks are better on each chip instead of placeing a fan over the area. results are the same. fan makes more noise. ;)

the colder you can keep those mosfets the better.

I just ran my sysem for an hour and felt which ones were hot, then put heatsinks on the hot ones... :D

From memory the Neo2 mosfets have heatsinks on them anyway and they are fairly well secured to the mosfets ??

Actually they have no HS's from the factory.
From my experience you are better off using and additional fan gently blowing over the area vs. HS's without airflow. The mosfets have a heatspreader on them which is soldered directly to the PCB which puts almost all thier heat straight into it. Adding HS's to the top of them doesn't catch much of thier heat. I'm using a quiet 120mm on mine that covers the video card/chipset/memory/mosfet area and to be honest the mosfets never get even a little warm. This is giving it heck at 1.85vcore with the cpu running 2650MHz. These winchesters draw very little juice.

Does anyone have any pictures of all the mosfets? I don't really know where they are or what they look like.

They're the little black chips scattered throughout the board. ;)

bechn your rig and then cuddle with your board and put a heatsink on every spot thats too hot for your tastes ;)

damn this sounds so wrong!

May be a good idea to cool the mosfet driver IC's. They're usually small 8 legged chips near or between the mosfets... they get really hot on some boards.

That's a picture of hotspots for a DFI Nforce2 board. It will give you a basic idea of what the actual MOSFETs will look like although the picture kind of sucks. I couldn't find the good picture of the NF7-S v2 board layout that has nice clean pics of the MOSFETS and PLL chips
