I've been thinking of getting some. Are they really necessary?

those are pretty weak man... ones i make are like twice that size...

i suppose the ones i see guys like hipro using are from some unknown source heh

I have those heatsinks mentioned above and they rarely get hot on my motherboard MOSFET's, don't think it was really required anyway lol

well what kind of volts are you running on what board?

It's still on my old Asus A7N8X-D rev2 board, vcore @1.85v, vdimm @2.9, AGP @1.6, not exactly "toaster" specs I know but it should prolong the life of the system until I can get my hand on some dual core chips.

I'm tempted on performing the chipset mod on this board just so I can run the memory past the current measly 205MHz, even then it still beats my Winchester setup @stock.

loll no wonder you dont need them, the fets on my infinity with 3.3v,2.0v,1.9v vdimm/vcore/Vdd get quite hot indeed. burn your fingers in fact lol...

Alot of people cut up old p1 and p2 heatsinks using a hacksaw or dremel. :)

ive done that, but im out of old hsf's lol... it'd be way easier to buy them already cut then paying money just for a hsf im going to cut up heh

kinda my idea was that i wouldnt have to make them this time around...

there was a guy on forums (maybe amdmb i think) selling like 20 heatsinsk for like 5 bucks. Theyre quite nice. Here is a picture of them on my infinity before i killed it :p: . I got another one that im going to install today though

IMO those are better for mosfets because they are smaller. I have to use one of the black heatsinks for 2 mosfets on my infinity, but the cooler master ones are smaller and i can use one on each mosfet. they also come with thermal tape. Here is how i was able to better cool the mosfets with them because of their size. Note: they are not glued on yet. They come 10 in a pack at 6$ so basically 60 cents each

i just had a great idea for really cheap fet cooling, lapped pennies suck together!

my inspiration: http://www.afrotechmods.com/ram.htm

on a side note i just bought some new ramsinks for my 9800 so ill either use those or the old tweakmonster ones that were on my card depending on which needs it most...

but im serioulsy considering that penny idea, just a few cents a sink hehe
