Alright, I'm trying to uninstall the XP-90 so I can RMA my 3500+ for another one, but I'm having no luck. What's the trick? I'm convinced that my processor is already chipped or something, due to the insane amount of pressure it requires to both put it on and take it off.

I've been trying to unhook the clips with a small screw driver, but I'm having no luck.

Please help A.S.A.P., because I have to leave very early in the morning tomorrow, so I'm going to have to have the processor packed by then if I want to RMA it.

just unscrew the retention part (the black square of plastic)

the back part where the heat pipes come off from, push the hinges down and use a flat screw driver and pull it out from the side. do that for both sides of the back. then pull one of the hinges out from the front, using the same technique. Your xp-90 should come out now.

I second that. Unscrew the mount.

I tried that before, but the stupid heatsink was blocking off access to the screw!!!

Same here. It isn't QUITE centered. I could unscrew the right side of the heatsink fine, but I couldn't get the other side.

The CPU cannot be chipped because it has an IHS :)
Try removing the mobo and then remove the XP-90, the way you tried already. You just need to push a little harder, use your fingers or a bigger screwdriver.

Yeah, needlenose pliers did the trick. :D I used them to get it loose, and a screwdriver to remove the clips from the mount. I RMAed the processor ealier today, and hopefully I can have it by Friday. :)

Is it possible to damage the A64's with that integrated heatspreader?

yeah, hit it with a hammer, but yeah if you were to put too much pressure like say use all your might to push on the heatsink then yeah you could kill it.

That's what I was trying to aviod doing. :p

I'm thinking about screwing the XP-90 when I get my RMAed 3500+ Winnie and just going straight to watercooling with it. The thing is, it's going to take a while to do. :(
