I am considering getting a Athlon 64 3000+ with the DFI Lanparty board and I want to know what store would have the latest week. I am hoping to get close to 2.6ghz with a Thermalright XP-120. I was thinking of ordering from either Newegg or ZZF, but if anyone knows of a better place then please let me know. Also I am planning on buying some G.skill pc-4400 memory, has anyone had good success with this memory on the Athlon 64 platform?

And i just ordered a 754 3000+ from newegg that'll be here monday and i'll post up the stepping from it to give you and idea as to what their shipping.

That would be awesome. I am going to order it on either monday or tuesday so please let me know. What motherboard and memory are you using?

I'm on a lanparty with some cheapo mushkin memory so i won't be able to push the chip to hard but i will be sure to get the stepping up here first thing when i get it.

What stepping do you have? Also what is the speed rating of that Patriot memory? I though Patriot wasn't very good for overclocking.

I'll get back to you on exact stepping for you. It was week 47 from memory (?). But the patriot is excellent http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-032&depa=0
rated 2-2-2-5 PC3200 and rated up to DDR533 with 3-4-4-8 timings
but runs PC4200 2.5-3-3-8 with 2.85v. You've been misinformed. Read this http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?p=1472059&highlight=patriot+xbl#post1472059

Wow the PC-3200 stuff does that high?! That's insane for the price. Looks almost the same as the G.skill memory as far as how high it overclocks. Now I wonder if I should get the Patriot instead. Just to make sure I get the right thing, you are saying that the Patriot PC-3200 memory for which you provided a link to is the stuff that is running that high. You don't have PC-4000 Patriot or something like that? If it really is the PC-3200 stuff then I am going to get a couple sets of it. Also do you think the 512mb sticks would do just as good?

Yep, that link is the stuff :D Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Do you think it would overclock higher if I just had a single 512mb stick? I just remembered that the socket 754 athlons don't have dual channel anyway so all I need is one stick. I just wonder which one would overclock better, 2 256mb sticks or a single 512mb stick.

I would think 2x256 would do better ... but you'd have to research how the 512s go. I've not tried them.

Yup chances are your mem controller is a good one. It's still luck of the draw as to where in the wafer your chip came from. Good luck.

Are you sure? I really don't want to do anything to limit my overclock.

Congrats on getting a week 46. I think I will order from newegg then. Let us know how high it goes.

Well, so far i can't really get it to oc at all....i couldn't even get it to pass superpi 1m at 1.55v, but i could get it 3d01 stable at 2400mhz( http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8348122 ) with the mem on 9/10 divider which suprised me, so it may just be something i'm doing.
Although i'm pretty sure its either my mem(maxes at 220fsb no matter how much voltag i put through it) or psu(12v seems to hover at 11.95) though as neither are that good, looks like i should've just waited a bit longer and bought the stuff i needed the first time instead of buying the right things now...
Oh and as a side note, anyone know how far of the dfi's built in temp sensors are?

I have some bad memory too. I have 1 gig of Kingston HyperX pc-3500 that will not post over 202mhz! PC-3500 my ass! But I did just get a OCZ powerstream and I love it. If you are looking for a new powersupply I would recommend the powerstream and it is pretty reasonably priced too.

Well first thing i'm gonna do is reseat my heatsink cause i don't think its making very good contact (would anyone here agree with me, i don't wanna do it unless i'm pretty sure it will help as this polo heatsink is a :banana::banana::banana::banana: to mount). Then i'm prolly gonna take out one of my 512 dimms and see if that helps me overclock it at all. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

stable now at 2200mhz just tightened the mounting screws in a turn and now it seem to be running quite a bit cooler, will let you know on max tomorrow as my fans are loud enought they're waking people up.

What kind of heatsink do you have? If you have the DFI board then you can fit a Thermalright XP-120 on there. That is what I am going to use. Any motherboard that I can fit an XP-120 on I always put one on because they are the best air cooling you can get. I have already used 3 of them on P4 setups and they are amazing, on par with basic watercooling in my opinion.

I just ordered one of the mobile 3400+'s from Newegg. I hope I get a week 0441 or higher, but I've heard the 0437's do very nicely too. :)

I've got a TT polo not a very good cooler by any means but it was what i could afford at the time, now i'm looking at a zalman cnps7000b as they not only cool well but they are quiet too.

You should think about the XP-120. With a 120mm low rpm Panaflo you can barely hear it run. It is way quieter than an 80mm setup and it cools way better. Also the other added benefit of the 120mm fan is that it cools down other compnents too like the northbridge and memory just because it is so big and overlaps so many parts on the motherboard. Mine made my northbridge on my old p4 setup about 10 degrees cooler and my video card memory way cooler. I was using a medium speed panaflo and it was a lot quieter than the stock intel fan.
