View Full Version : Peformance Test

I'm going to conduct a test using my system using various BIOS settings and seeing how they affect performance. My next post will look more official and have all the starting data, but first I would like to know what benchmarks I should use.

So far I have:
SuperPI 1M
SuperPI 32M
Everest Read
Everest Write
Everest Latency
Sandra CPU Arithmetic
Sandra Memory Bandwidth
Sandra CPU-Multimedia
Aquamark 3

I will add to the list as you make suggestions. I would rather not perform benchmarks involving graphic performance because I have a bad graphics card (x300xt), but since I will keep it at the same speed the whole time I guess I could use them to see how memory and cpu settings affect gaming.

All input is appreciated!

Also, if a mod could help me organize the data better within the thread that would be cool.

edit: added sandra multi-media benchmark
edit2: added Aquamark 3 benchmark

System Performance Research

The research will be conducted using the following system:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4
Default CPU Speed: 3.2 ghz
Default FSB: 200 mhz
Stepping: DO
Default Voltage: 1.3875

Memory: Crucial Ballistix
Modules: 512*2
Chips: Micron
Default Divider: 3:4
Default Speed: 266
Default Timings: 4-4-4-12
Default Voltage: 1.8

Motherboard: Abit AA8 Duramax
Chipset: 925x
NB Voltage: 1.5
BIOS Revision: 17

I won't give the rest of my system specifications because they will not change and I'm not looking to brag about benchmarks. This research is being done to see the change between various system settings.

I will be using "Extreme Air" cooling throughout the research. Basically I'm using default heatsinks (besides Thermaltake 112 Tower) with a small industrial fan blowing into the case.

I will reference each setup as "Setup #", so refer to the following setups below for the corresponding Setup #. I will just refer to the default setup as default.

Thanks, are there any benchmarks in particular that you would like to see?

edit: also I probably won't do anything benchmarking tonight because I have to go to bed soon and I want to see what benchmarks and different setups people would like me to use.

no those should be fine, maybe a 3d bench mark or 2 of some kind

Yeeahh I'm going to try PCMark 04 and 3DMark 01 and 03 I think.... or whatever of those benchmarks you can download for free. :D

Aquamark, maybe VulpineGL or whatever it was called.. cant remember it now.

This should be good. I would suggest Aquamark also.

Adding Aquamark to the list, I'm going to do a last check on system stability, reboot and then run the benchmarks on default. After that I will continue to change the settings and see what I get! :)

edit: holy :banana::banana::banana:, Aquamark 3 is like 65 mb. lol

Guys, I'm having stability problems at default. :(

Once I get it fixed I swear I'll bump up the thread and give you guys some results.
