Trivia: How many Xtreme members does it take to give the same advice?

Don't get this one wrong :-)

hehe, build phase and cascades all day and this is what ya get
also make sure you use 4.10 or above cats i think even 128mb cards get a speed up
also if you disable the lan connections you dont use and diable then in device manager, along with parallel ports, serial, whatever you dont need. some bioses can do this too. disable in both.
and when benching run msconfig and select diagnostic, then switch to selective, go to services and tick hide ms services or something, then tick your gpu drivers. then reboot.

also its faster to set the big slider to hi performance, than to select custom settings, and set all the sliders to theyre fastest settings

afireinside

Really? Why is that? Setting the single slider seems to set them half way between performance and balance...

MrQ3W

Doing as blinky said means you only have to pull 2 sliders, doing your way takes more hence "faster". :P

note:
he's showing the opengl settings not the direct3d!

Isn't the Lobby test in 3dmark opengl?
I always set both anyway..but you might be right maybe he forgot the other why the low score.

no its all directx

i also set both anyway but i tested it once with ogl set to max detail and d3d to max performance score was the same as with both set to max performance

ok guys I will try that, (I have never really looked into gpu sttings, just increased frequencies and core speeds.)
how do i turn it offAA and AF? do i just set it to 2x or can you turn it off completly.

yes im sick of good cooling and crap bench mark scores.
I understand what ya saying there I will do that.
i wish my ATA driver software looked that cool.

ok will do both.

yeah you can turn it off completely by ticking the 'application preference' box, as 3d mark doesnt use AA or AF by default it will give a much better score, obviously games wont look as good so i'd turn it on for games

thanks so what sort of settings should i use when playing games.
i have been having troble playing doom3. other games are fine.

You can move the slider to the left, or go to custom settings and move every slider to the left.

i gave that a try and it worked. at 2.5ghz 1.85v and 567/782 and got 15738 i havnt been able to get 14k before.
one thing with the 9600xt that i noticed, when changing core frequencies I can only select 567MHZ then 580.5 no real in-between frequency, is this normal or should I try another ocing program. I was told that this tunner was the best one to use?
can i flash the bios on the 9600xt like motherboards??

Jamo
01-04-2005, 08:23 AM
yeah you can flash the bios but just be aware you could kill the card doing so, just experiment till doom 3 looks good, i run my 9600xt at balanced, no aa or af in 1024x768 and on medium in doom 3, better settings in other games as doom 3 really takes it out of that card

bet your using radlinker right? if you go into advanced you can select the increments of the clocks to be more accurate, for reference i run 580/700, but i have crappy 3.3ns ram :(

have you flashed your bios, do you think that it would make much of a difference?
i ran doom again and its ok now.
i will give what ya said jamo
for me 1024x768 at the moment pauses sometimes as ya enter the room, then action ok.
im using RivaTuner

also jamo what sorta score did you use to get on you 9600XT

Jamo

i would turn off all AA and AF on doom3, as this really kills the card, i know it looks bad but a more playable framerate will give a better gaming experience in my opinion, i think i used to get about 16500, will find out later as i use it in my second system

i have not flashed the bios on this card, but i have on my 6800gt and other cards in the past, personally i've never killed a card, neither have any of my friends but just be aware it can happen

EDIT: just ran a quick 2001, heres the linky: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8347261

Doom3 doesn't need AA, it has some sort of built-in technique to remove jaggies so it looks great even without it, doesn't look much worse than with it on so.... AF it still needs though.
