I remember zalman had a totally silent cooler build... I'd be interested in only using heatsinks as well, maybe a single 120mm fan for the PSU as I don't want to fry the comp.

I was thinking some mobile cpu (intel over amd?) underclocked by default as I only need the comp to replace my DSL/ISDN router.
then I still have my old gf2 with passive cooling or I might use an onboard chipset as well.
well, then probably some asrock board without a nb fan which leaves me with finding a PSU and CPU cooler which are quiet.

the room btw is 12-15°C, even less in summer when the heating is off.

any help greatly appreciated!

thanks for the link.
the cpu heatsinks look nice, I hope they will cut it alone. now I just have to decide on a socket type for the mobile proc and I'll order one of these monster heatsinks.
the fanless psus are a bit pricy.. I was more hoping I could mod one of my existing enermax or generic PSUs. anybody got experience with that?

Allied 450w dual fan and put a pair of very quiet 80mm fans on it, or run them at 5v.

Heck, mines nearly silent as is..

the problem is that I hear extremely well... should have listened to louder music when I was young ;)
my former fileserver was running all passive cooling except for the cpu and psu. the cpu cooler was a thermaltake "whatever" silent hsf rated at 21db and the psu just had a single 120mm fan rated at 18db and I still noticed it - even when the radio was on.

Get a zalman for cpu, and vga silencer for videocard. I installed these two, and boy,all I'm hearing now is my hard drives.
