View Full Version : Can the BIOS lock up if memory can't handle high fsb?

Ok, the good news: I can finally cold boot as high as 260 with this memory thanks to the F7 BIOS.
Bad news: I get lockups in the BIOS if I'm at 250 or higher at times. Even if I power down and reboot it hangs and pressing del doesn't help. The only thing that resets the defaults in the BIOS is if I pull out one of the mem modules, reboot, put it back in and reboot again. So much for the K8NSNXP-939's dual BIOS.

Is this a common thing? I thought if the memory settings were unstable it would auto reboot back to defaults, not hang.

Should I pick up some of this G.Skill mem?http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-231-006&depa=0

here a tip, turn the switch on your PSU to off, then hit the power button, you system will turn on for a nanosecond, after it does this then push and hold the power button for like 3 seconds.

any power that was in the capacitators is now gone. now power on your psu and power on your system, this should help.

try hitting the insert key right after you turn on the computer. on my k8n neo, it sets the ram to 166mhz

hold insert while powering on.. make sure to have it held before pressing power button.

So does this mean the ram is pissing off the BIOS? Only because initially I thought the flashed BIOS was corrupt so I reflashed it again. Also I was getting random white artifacts while booting.
