View Full Version : Fortron 530 or OCZ520?
which one should i get with the folllowing setup.
amd 64 3700+ CG
epox 8kda3+
gskill 2.5-3-3-7@pc4400 rated
9800pro
i'll have the cpu, vga, and nb(possibly) all waterchilled with reservoir temps that get to around -30C.
i'll also have just 1 hd, 1optical, and maybe i'll throw in tv tuner card into this rig, not sure about that yet.
would i benefit getting the ocz over the fortron or would it not matter? i'm also looking to have this comp 24/7 usage w/ games and stuff. not just suiciding w/ superpi.

The Ocz seems very nice. The 600W is stunning: (http://www.3dgameman.com/vr/ocz/600watt_psu/video_review_03.html)
Even though its not the most technical test i´ve seen its really showing the style and features of the OCz series.. Enjoy :)
well the 600watter i'm not willing to pay for on this rig, my nforce 4 rig might have the 620watter in it, or maybe if pcpc comes out with something new i'll take a look at that.
i do like the external adjustments of the pots on the ocz, but if thats the only thing i'd really be benefitting from over the fortron then i'll just keep the extra 60$ i'd be spending on the ocz and get the fortron.

There is much to like about the Fortron,( price? :stick: ) the only drawback is that you have to open it up to adjust the rails. I like mine alot and would buy another one in a heartbeat.
well how does OCZ justify their heftier pricetag then? is it soley because of the nickel plated casing and how every cable is sleeved?

Skip
Looks & 5Yr warranty. Maybe it performs a bit better than the fortron as well. However, if I was buying, Fortron it would be :)
yea its gonna be the fortron, just can't find a way to justify the extra 60$ to get the ocz right now. for my nforce4 rig, i think i'll get a spiffy ocz or pcpc.

Love my fortron 530w to death. Have never adjusted the pots and they all hold stable at about .1 v above the norm, hardly fluctuate ever between load and idle.

I love my OCZ PSU's. The rails are ROCK STEADY!! Fluctuate less than 1% if at all. Too bad noone got them from Newegg when they were $125.00 when they first came out.
yea i almost did get one, but instead got an antec true control 550. which i'll be selling to a friend soon, that psu is no good for overclocking, only 24A on the 12V. its pretty solid though, had it running 1.95V through my mobile and even had an 80watt pelt hooked up to it for my vid card.
but that psu is not gonna be all that great for some serious A64 o/cing.

Why not get teh fortron 550W and a 24 to 20 pion adapter
that would, in my opiniion, be better
