View Full Version : Any tips/tricks on bending tubes of cooling system thats still charged?

I have this fridge guts, i dont know how to weld so im not going to take it apart,i ts still charged and works, but i need to bend the pipes to fit it in a plastic case i bought for it....
any tips on bending? tools? maybe heat the pipe to bend?

bending the cap tube is safe, u can bend that anyway u want, but u will need pipe bender for the thicker pipes.
dont try to bend the pipes anywhere near the braised joints as those will likely rupture and u will lose ur gas, just be very getle and slow while bending, dont get any kinks in the piping, and u should be safe.
i dont think heating the pipe would be very good, the pressure inside would rise and more likely to rupture.

There's no need to heat the pipes to bend them. If they're anything like mine, they're copper and they're easy to bend. Just make sure to use two hands and slowly bend them, but not to any extreme angle (>90).
Try not to unbend any pipe and make it go the opposite way. So if the pipe is pointing up, don't try and make it point down. Doing that will stress the pipe and may create a small crack.
Some people recommend using tube benders, but I have found it easier to use my hands.
