i've thought of an idea for waterchilling, dunno if this has been done before, except on cascades.

instead of a reservoir to hold the coolant mixture, how about using a tube-in-tube HX?

the inner tube works as the evap, which refrigerant runs thru, and the outer tube has the coolant run thru it, surely this would use less coolant, and take up less space, and pull-down times be quite significantly reduced? also the coolant and refrigerant run in opposite directions.

what does everyone think?

ahh doing a little reading (which i should of done before i posted) i noticed chilly1 already done this on his chiller (liquid frostbyte)

my bad... ignore this thread

The draw back to this setup is that you have no buffer. In a system with a full sized chiller the compressor can be run in intervals, only being turned on when the chiller temperature rises a couple of degrees. With a tube-in-tube the compressor would have to be run constantly. Although, I think most people leave their compressors on constantly anyway.

well by reading what i've read so far, i'm gonna completely make my own chiller from scratch, instead of doctoring some a/c unit.

start with a 1/4hp compressor then i can arrange it how i like in a case of my design.

would r507 do for a refrigerant? or that too extreme for a chiller?

i spose if im making my own direct die would be easier :p:
