Well, o nmy first, using stock ^^, i hooked the NB side on, then as i pushed to hook up the other side, i heard a crack! Knowing the horror stories of dies cracking, i was terrified. Luckily, it was no big deal. I still remember that sound to this day. This was with a Barton 2600 and a Abit NF7-S
What was YOUR first HSF install on Socket A like?

Smooth.
But I did crack one about 7 months ago, even with a 3mm square chip out of the corner it still worked. Just.

i was new to building pc's and hardware so my buddy installed my 1800+ in my gigabyte kt333. he struggled to put the hsf on, so i assumed it was hard. then i built a pc for my dad, and it was so simple i couldnt believe it. never fubar'd a socket a install, or any install for that matter.

On my first install, i killed a 700DM 1,1Ghz :-( I replaced it with a 750DM 1,2GHz. That hurts.

My first was with a T-bird 750 on an FIC mobo (don't remember the model),during the summer of 2000. I tried to install a golden orb HSF and ruined the cpu. Great first experience with the flip-chip package!
my first socket A install went just fine, used the stock heatsink and the screwdriver way of installing. i was a little surprised at how much force is needed. socket 754 and 939 retail hsf are very easy and require very little force.

first one was cake...back in the summer tho, i was drinking and installing a speeze hs on a DFI UI and popped an inductor off the mobo....luckily, i was able to get it soldered back on and the mobo worked fine...

all but one of mine have been perfect and the only reason i slightly damaged a core was because the crappy volcano wouldnt sit on properly (i was using it to test as putting a pal8045 on and taking it off again takes awhile). the proc is still running fine to this day though :)
