I have a Gigabyte Ultra 939 and a week 39 3000+

Can't run prime blend at stock speeds

I use a Fortron FSP530 which ran a Mobile XP at 2.8 so I eliminated that as a possible problem.

Above 200 speed for the memory it freezes up when stress testing, not just prime 95. *YES* I have the HTT multiplier at 3x.

It could be the memory but I doubt it since it does 270+ speeds stable in memtest. (Patriot TCCD ram) I am running at timings of 2.5 3 3 10. [EDIT] The same thing happened with my BH5. I thought it was a faulty booster. (Sorry OCZ for my RMA on that when it might not be broken)

It is prime stable at 2550 at 1.45 volts but only if the memory is below 200. (Running on a 100 divider). [EDIT] The new CPU does 2.6 prime stable (with memory below 200)

As far as I can tell - the problem is either the CPU or the motherboard. The CPU is much easier to swap out so I have a week 42 3000+ on hold for me and I'll be exchanging tonight. [EDIT] I swapped out the CPU - same problem.

So - what do you guys think? Motherboard? Anything else that could cause this system freezing up. I'm gonna try a windows reinstall - then return the MB unless someone has any bright ideas...

My GigaCrap does better than my NEO2muchmoneyforgarbage

Unfortunately I don't know what the issue is there though.

I believe there is a problem with winchesters and Prime95, try something else to test stablity

If your CPU is a Winchester, it's well known that Prime95 will fail (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=46885), even at stock speeds.

If it were only Prime it "may" be an issue with Prime95, but his PC freezes too...

I would say CPU has a REALLY bad memory controller... did you board run with another CPU?

I say CPU...

I wouldnt just blame the CPU just yet, theres alot of posts in regards to the board he is using and problems with 2x512 memory.

Are you using the latest bios?

Yeah - I was running F5 but in my quest to discover WTF was causing lock up I changed to F6.

New CPU is in. Its running Prime right now at a low overclock with the memory at 236. I had the choice of week 44 or 42. I went with 42.

BTW - Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Prime fanatic. I just like my 24/7 overclock to be prime stable for at least a couple hours.

I hope you're right!

Fair enough, well let us know how the new cpu performs for you :D

Still using same board right?

!#!$&!^&*$!^*&^#!$( :stick:  :stick:

Same crap! I guess I got a bunk MB. :( :( :(

Good news - this CPU overclocks quite a bit better than the last one.

Don't know the limits yet but it seems to have no problem runnning prime at 288x9 or 2.6.

Anyone got any idea besides the MB?

just do some 16m and 32m superPI tests, some long gaming, 3dmark01 loops that seems to work good if you want to test stability

try lower timings and (for me the solution) lower Vdimm to 2.6~2.65 !

FYI

My patriot tccd did not behave until I upped my precharge (tcd) memory setting from 2 to 3 to pass Prime95 at stock (I tested this on multiple a64 motherboards) with everything else being equal.

I have done so. It will freeze.

I'll give it a shot but we're talking about this happening with memory speeds as low as 218. At this point tho I'm willing to try anything.

Thank you - I haven't even bothered trying to tighten up the timings yet. I am running these at 2.5 3 3 10 speeds so I'm pretty sure timings aren't the issue.

Guess no one can offer me any further advice. I shall return the MB. After I reinstall Windows ..
