Since it technically is a mod, I decided this was a good place. I have an older 9600, and I pulled the cpu out, and noticed that it has different mhz ratings. I checked the system and it says its running at 300mhz. I checked the CPU and it has a resistor on the 300mhz. I'll let the pictures explain. Does anyone think I could unsolder it and put it on the 400mhz spot??

That is how you overclock apples. change the multiple if you want. just upgrade the fans on the case or cpu. even the G5's are done that way.
You are correct. I have a friend who performed this mod on an apple. He just resoldered as you suggest.

But how can I get the resistor off. I was going to try to just put the soldering gun on top and wait, but I decided to ask here first.

apply heat to both sides back and forth until the solder melts, and it should just pop off.

What do you mean. I was pretty sure that I could just unsolder it and move it.
