Im new at phase change stuff. i got an old AC unit (built in 1972), took out the compressor, and the evaporator.

the compressor was built by Fader in Argentina, under license from Tecumseh. the code for this compressor from tecumseh usa is AJ-120, and from tecumseh europe AJ5515E.

its a 1HP unit for R22.

http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/09/Compresor1.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=55266)http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/09/Compresor2.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=55276)http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/09/Compresor3.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=55279)

I will be using the AC unit evaporator as the condenser, since its smaller thant the condenser it had. in fact its quite huge.

http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/09/Condensador.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=55281)

This is the evaporator i made using a 5m long 3/8" pipe. it has a 0,8mm cap tube running through the inside of the second coil.

this is how the cap tube goes

http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/15/evap.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=61247)

This Chiller will be housed in a huge case im building, as it isnt finished yet.
but i needed to have every part in the correct position to start bending pipes etc. so i used 4 small benchs and 2 wood sticks to hold the condensor in place.

http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/18/DSC04545_resize.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=63827)

i made a cardboard "tank" to see if everything was going as supposed based on the 3D desing.

this is the small case im building for this chiller

http://www.jotapeges.com/thumbs/imgs/1/200412/19/chasis.JPG (http://www.jotapeges.com/show.php?i=64797)

i will be using a Mag 3 pump, sumerged in the denaturalyzed alcohol.

so this is what i have made so far.

comments are welcomed ;)

Wow... I like how well planned everything is... 3d imaging on the computer... Nice ;)

Im gonna start on my chiller here soon...
Im building it outta an old waterchiller/dispenser, that they put in coffee lounges... Look forward to seeing a post...

B.T.W. I love your idea of a custom case... I think I am gonna build mine outta black Acryllic... Should look nice,idk... Sorry I am gettin Off-Topic...

Good idea, good lookin chiller so far... Good luck!

i like acrylic for cases too. but in this case acrylic alone just isnt enough.

so far, the chiller by itself weights almost 35kg. so a metal chasis was necesary. i will be using iron since its easy to work with.
the panels and many internals will be made of acrylic.

Nice... You own a welder of any sort?

I love to weld, right good at it also, not to brag...

Good luck with it my man, Should look nice once finished... ;)

a friend has a welder, he will help me with the case.

i dont know how to weld really. but i hope to learn a bit from him.

in fact, i bought my MAPP torch about 1 month ago. i learnt how to use it by reading guides and some good old "trial and error".

previous to this, i had no experience at all, with this kind of thing. thats the more interesting part of building it, learning to do new stuff :D

Damn straight... Trial and Error is the best way to go... with some things...

I think someone said in this forum... "Trial and Error inst the best way to go when dealing with deadly gases such as R22" lol... After the stupid redneck ( me ) said, "Well maybe I will just screw around with it and see how it comes out... "

Coyote
12-18-2004, 10:53 PM
sure, trial and error is nice thing if the costs of error arent that high.

well, hope i cant post more progress soon.
on monday morning i will go shopping for some more things i need so i hope i get everything.

ill be posting soon, bye.

well, i went shopping for some things i needed.
http://img29.exs.cx/img29/1594/dsc04599resize7mm.th.jpg (http://img29.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img29&image=dsc04599resize7mm.jpg)

i got a tube bender, so i decided to re do all the piping. i dissambled all the old piping.
http://img29.exs.cx/img29/332/dsc04602resize0zc.th.jpg (http://img29.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img29&image=dsc04602resize0zc.jpg)http://img57.exs.cx/img57/9112/dsc04603resize1cc.th.jpg (http://img57.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img57&image=dsc04603resize1cc.jpg)http://img57.exs.cx/img57/1531/dsc04604resize0gv.th.jpg (http://img57.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img57&image=dsc04604resize0gv.jpg)

and replaced with this
http://img97.exs.cx/img97/8869/dsc04606resize9da.th.jpg (http://img97.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img97&image=dsc04606resize9da.jpg)http://img154.exs.cx/img154/724/dsc04608resize1mq.th.jpg (http://img154.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img154&image=dsc04608resize1mq.jpg)

although i will be changing the pipe for the filter, cause ive been told that having the pipe going up to the cap tube isnt the best thing to do.

Thats lookin great bro... Keep it up...

It looks a ton better considering how I am lookin at it on a new 19inch Viewsonic CRT... lol... Sorry, this moniter is the size of my case, and after looking at a 15 inch CRT with :banana::banana::banana:ty refresh rates... this thing deserves my bragging... Back to your chiller...

I love it, I like where you are going with it... Cant wait to see the end product...

Looking good Coyote!

I'm guessing it's going to be horizontal. Can I ask for some dimensions? It looks pretty large for a chiller, amazing work!

Looks great man... I have retired my chiller that hasnt even been started... Just gonna stick to regular water-coolin... Maybe I will join you guys here real soon... Later...

I love your chiller... Please post tons of pics once finished... :-D

Coyote

no doc, its not meant to be horizontal. in the first post you can see a CGI with everything in place.

the dimensions are, 1m tall, 33cm wide and 55cm long.

R22 for the phase unit and denaturalized alcohol for the liquid circuit.

Kool...

I am building my outdor Heatercore, custom watercooling unit here soon...

no chiller... but super-chiller is on its way...

"We have the power to rebuild him"
*Just not the friggin money! So we will use a trashcan as the housing, and a :banana::banana::banana:y mini-fridge with raptured lines from the dump for the chiller... And I will just dump all that in the trash can, then well see who can build a chiller!!!!!!!!!!!!*

Sorry, good luck.. I am stoned right now, lol... no just BAWLS Guarana, muahahah....

putted everything in place. by recomendation of runmc, i changed the tank and compressor location to the lower part of the case.

http://img160.exs.cx/img160/9454/dsc046812to.th.jpg (http://img160.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img160&image=dsc046812to.jpg)http://img160.exs.cx/img160/4729/dsc046860ij.th.jpg (http://img160.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img160&image=dsc046860ij.jpg)http://img160.exs.cx/img160/1822/dsc046938di.th.jpg (http://img160.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img160&image=dsc046938di.jpg)

to cool the condensor i will be using 5 160cfm 140x140x51 sanyo denki fans. i guess that should be enough :p:

there's been a change of plans, the chiller is a no go, im going straight to DD. its too complicated, i will sacrifice the GPU chilling in order to have a more compact and performing system.

made some progress with the chasis and started mounting everything in place.

tomorrow ill start putting the copper pipes.
