Using specs in sig, all OC'd as well as a full WC system as in sig.

What which PSU would you suggest and why? Previously I had the OCZ Powerstream 600W in my sights due to it's insanely solid rails and adjustability, as well as sexyness. Just wondering if the PCP&P 510D would be any better, or equal in performance.

You cant go wrong with either one of those. Just close your eyes and pick one. ;)

The PCP&C unit has a maximum peak output of 600w and outputs 550W @40C and 510W @50C, can the OCZ unit max this? ;)

The PCP&C is better overall, but not by much and it's definatly noticably a lot louder than the OCZ. The 600w OCZ Powerstream is a little better than the PCP&C and around the same price if you shop around. So if you want the best, just get the 600w Powerstream and not only will that out power the PCP&C, but it will be quieter.

OCZ has a peak output of 700w but the PCP&C has higher quality components and is made by PCP&C themselves. Someone else makes OCZ's powersupplies. I have both and I prefer my PCP&C.

Cuddles, if you want, PCP&C are coming out with 750W & 850W units soon (Feb.).
I think I will get the PCPC, although the OCZ offers much more value, and offers greater peak power.

where did you hear that? i'm trying to google it and i'm not getting anything. i would be pretty interested about that, so if you could link something i'd appreciate it.

Edit: oh its on their website. whoops. but where did you hear the date?

Russ Smith from PCPC's amazing staff told me that through email ;)

I would like to try out the 850w and compare it to some Zippy units, that would be intersting.

:slobber:

So cuddles if I was you I would wait a little ;)

I will soon be a PCP&C 850w user so I may be able to provide some test results.

Wow! what are you going to power with soo much watt? I thought my 550 is enough.

2 6800's, a FX55, lots of HDD's, 2gb OCZ VX, a couple of DVD burners, lots of fans, a few cold cathodes, and, err, yeah.

Plus, with the 850W poewr supply, you could power a 120W peltier and still have 730W of power

A ATX power supply does not have the voltage requirements of a T.E.C. Sure, the watts are high enough, but TEC's usually require wierd voltages.

I don't know, but to me, it's going to be one "hot" rig you have. Yeah and Tec uses different voltage.

TEC doesnt care what voltage it gets as long as it gets the job done.

Pending your defenition of "lots" that will barely strain the psu at all. Maybe if you oc everything and run a dc pump... *maybe* then you'll be pushing it...

how exactly are you getting ahold of one anyway?

I'm not getting one YET. I need to find somewhere to buy one, and complete my new rig.

Well you'll need to wait a little longer  as most of the units goes to OEM's like Alienware.

850W is seriously retarded. You couldn't even use that much wattage in a 4 CPU system. Not to mention I would not envy your utility bill. :P

Why would the electricity bill be any higher?

Overall I think it's a very good investment for the future of dual cpu's and gpu's. Nice features like 2xpci-e cabels and btx support can be found in the new units. The electricity bill won't changed as long as the PSU is not pushed to the max (which is very hard to do as we all know :p:), but you'll need a very beefy UPS to hold this though.

850w psu would use a bit more current then a standard 550w. not much, just a bit. i doubt the engery useage would vary enough to be a big difference

I would go with the PC Power & Cooling. I have two of them and love em. They haven't let me down yet. After, almost 3 years from the date of purchase they still perform like the day I got them.

How much are those babies expected to cost? :slobber: I'd sure like to get my hands on one of those for SLI. :toast:

How noisy are the PC Power and Cooling supplies? The 510 SLI model is tempting, but I don't like my gaming PC to be too noisy (my watercooling is fairly quiet).

It depends on what kind of psu you get. The pfc version spins the fan according to how hot the psu is. The other versions do not, you can also ask the people at PC Power & Cooling to outfit your unit with a quieter fan if you wish. Just give them a call, they would better explain it to you.

Lots of non-PFC psu's have fan speed controllers.

I can't wait to see how much the 850watt weighs =o. their psus are already like double the weight of everybody elses' when comparing equal wattage.

An 850w PSU would probably cripple a case with it's weight.

no it would actually use less. the less power you use from the max power it can provide, the better the efficiency. :)

I have $150 to spend on either a watercooling setup or a new PCP&P PSU. :D I think I'm just going to spend like $100 to get the remaining watercooling supplies I need and wait until I actually get SLI to worry about that. ;)
