hi guys
i bought a 90w-TEC, yesterday (it's a 40x40mm-TEC)
just wanted to begin small, you know :D
so, i want to know, if someone here has a similar "small" TEC and is cooling a 6800gt/ultra.
and i've another question, too:
i'll cool the TEC with my GPU-Waterblock.....and i think (hope) the TEC will get sub-zero-temps to my GPU (now with waterblock-only it doesn't get hotter then 50°C ! - even while running DX9 Real-Time High-Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting v1.2) - so, i heared there are problems with subzero-temps @ GF6 like it was with the GF-FX-series.....is it true and are there solutions to surpass that?

man, does nobody has a 90w-TEC here?
Doesn't look like it :)
Where did you get yours and what are the specs (Umax, Imax, Qmax, dims)?

ebay.de ;)
Imax: 6A
Umax: 15,2V
Qmax: 90W
but what the hell is "dim"? :D
so, i'll ask otherhow:
what are your generell results with a T.E.C. @ your GPU ;)
just tell:
- which GPU? (9800Pro? 6800GT? etc)
- what T.E.C.
- what oc-results BEFORE T.E.C. (what cooling since then) and results WITH T.E.C.
- HOW and with WHAT did you all isolate your GPU-surroundings?
it's my first going with T.E.C. - so, don't be cruel ;) :D

I can tell you straight away now, that a 90 watt TEC on a 6800gt/ultra will result in WORSE temps than just water cooling alone.
A lot of ppl dont have any knowledge of TEC physics...
The first thing is that a 90 watt tec, will only move 90 watts of heat at the maximum rated voltage it is specified for, if its the usual 14-15 volt TEC and you running it at 12 volt, its rated capacity is probably about 70 watts.
Secondly, this is at absolute 100% efficiency...so reduce that to 60 watts.
Thirdly, this final 60 watt heat removal capability - doesnt mean it will get sub zero temps at 60 watt heat load, all it means is that at 60 watts heat load it will result in a cold side temp thats EQUAL to the hot side temp - ie you gain nothing in temperature drop....so if your hot side, which is water cooled, is running at 35 celcius, then at 60 watt load the cold side will be 35 celcius...at higher loads it will be higher, and lower it will be lower.
Now since a 6800GT/Ultra, when under load (3d gaming/benching) is putting out a crap load more than 60 watts, then the resultant cold side temperature will be higher than just water cooling alone - ie you will gain nothing :/
For modern cards, to actually get any gain under load, you need 120 watt peltiers AT LEAST, and to get any big temp gains under load you really could do with something approaching the 200 watt range, and a damn good gpu water block, nd radiator (not the piddly sized ones)

I had an 80w pelt on a 6800gt and it kept it around 30c under heavy load, idle was like 18c. Straight water is 40-50c.

@ novagamer: Did you get any oc-gain with using the TEC?
and with what did you isolate the DIE-surroundings?

Interested in resul as well as I finally got all my SLi Setup ready. (6800GT). Only thing is too cool 2 GPUS, I need to think and think. I already have 1 NV68 but dont' really want to have 2 :P Thinking of selling 6800U with NV68 and just grabbing few silverprop GPU cooler or the amazing white water product (what revision is cathar's block on GPU now? is it out yet?)
Or going full blown out dual tec with 3x120mm radi setup. (Even more money... and I don't have place for extra psu... I guess I could utilize my 45A 12v rail more than fully maybe).
Most likely I will end up doing 2 GPU waterblock, but wanted to know how stock tecs do really on 6800GT :P

but mine TEC won't be "stock" ;)
it will be cooled with a waterblock :)

there is no such thing as a stock tec... a "stock" tec will burn up just by putting power to it for too long.

Blah stock tecs as in MCW-50T or maze4-1. Thought you guys wouldn't get too critical :P I still have bitter taste of one burnt 9800pro with MCW-50T's stock tec when I v-modded a little too far out :P
i got a mcw50-t (90w tec) on my un-modded 9800pro... i can bench upto 483/400 gpu/mem. i think its volt limited, cud get more with more volts ...need to get vmods but im scared to do myself :(
to compare: with stock cooling i can only get 435/370 gpu/mem

i thought the 6800gt/u uses over 100w

Using and efficiency are different.
Dont forget ram too.
do 6800gt's have any problems with TEC cooled blocks? (since they have a problem with sub zero temps) ...
