i got a multimeter coming in later on today ~ and i know the whole deal surrounding it, but i got some questions

1) so i put the black connecter into the black wire of the molex ~ then the red one in the color of the line i want to check

2) do i put these in while the comp is off, then start it. Or do i put both in while the comp is on?

3) can i do any damage to the molex or comp?

4) and i set the multi to read "voltage" or "V"

(its a $30 radioshack one :link will be up in a second)

EDIT: Link (http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F011%5F008%5F002%5F000&product%5Fid=22%2D813)

You should have no worries.

1) Depends which rail you measuring, but yes black in black and red in the red or yellow.

2) You can do it while it is on.

3) Havent heard of anyone doing so.

4) Yes set it to V, you want to set the voltage to higher than the rail your measuring but closet to it, so it will give you the most accurate reading.

1 = spot on
2 = as long as multimeter is set to Volts its not an issue
3 = no unless your heavy handed
4 = yes

it should be set to V _-_-_ (or 'DC'), not V~ (or 'AC'), or the readings will be a little off ;)
