Hello folks ... after reading alot I decided to post my OC problem :
Rig:
- OCZ PowerStream 420W Power Supply
- P4C800 Gold Edition i875p, Revision 1.03, Bios 1019c final
- Intel P4 3.0GHz, Boxed sSpec SL6WK (30caps!!), Packdate 10/03/2004
- OCZ EL DDR PC-4200 Dual Channel Platinum Edition 1GB, CL 2.5-3-3-8 @ 2.75 Volts
- Zalman 7700 AlCu + Arctic Silver 5
In BIOS:
Memory Speed : 400 (1:1)
Memory timings : 2.5-3-3-8
Memory Voltage : 2.75V
AGP/PCI Frequency : 66/33
AGP VDDQ : 1.5v
MPS Revision : 1.4
Graphics Aperture : 128MB
Spread Spectrum : Disabled
ICH Delayed Trans. : Disabled
USB Legacy support : Disabled
Performance Acceleration Mode : Enabled
PAT : Turbo
All the other DRAM options (Idle time, Refresh Rate, ...) are at default !
I'm stable at 254fsb with my P4 3.0C at 1.58v, that equals 3.8GHz.
The temps are between 28ºC (idle) and 48ºC (full load).
My tests are done by running at the same time the SuperPI for 2M and the MemTest 3.0.
The problem is that at >= 255fsb with this test the system freezes after one or two minutes !! I have to reboot the machine.
Tried with the vCore at 1.6v and 1.62v and it still freezes with that test !
The mem's are ok and are bellow it's default specs, because they are PC4200.
Is it the CPU ??
I think it's the board/BIOS because this CPU was at 4.2GHz in a WC system before it came to me !
What do you think ?
Any ideas folks ?

Thats not his memory, the memory you posted was DDR2, he's running a P4C800 which means he has DDR1 and he even said what memory he has, the OCZ PC4200 Platinum.

I don't think its your motherboard holding you back and its definitely not your memory. What video card do you have? If you have a 6800 GT or Ultra the power supply might be holding you back, but I doubt thats the problem. If that CPU could do 4.2Ghz on water its conceivable it would only do 3.7Ghz on air so my guess is the CPU just doesn't have sufficient cooling to go any higher.

Hi, I had one, it was a SL6WU 30cap VCore = 1.475V, reachs 3.8 stock VCore.
You must have the VCore Droop Vmod, to reachs 280FSBs stable.

3Dmark2001SE = 27422 3Dmarks (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8185167)
However 3.8GHz with air is excelent :)

At default vcore I can "only" get 3.6GHz :toast:
This board, as all P4C800 boards, has alot of vdrop.
With 1.58v/1.6v I have at idle time with CPU-Z 1.6v/1.62v but at full load it drops to 1.55v/1.57v !! This instability could also be the problem.
One doubt ... we must set the vcore@bios in a way that at full load we still have at least 1.5v wright ??

I have a MSI Ti4200-8x 128MB not OC'd. Why could it be the vga card ? I have the AGP/PCI locked in bios !
As for the cooling , as I said, I have the new Zalman 7700AlCu and the temps never exced 48ºC/50ºC on my tests !
I'm really  about those freezes.
To take the possibility of being a memory problem I tried with the mem at 5:4 and it still freezes at 255 !

I was just thinking that if you had a power hog of a video card like a 6800 series, your power supply might be insufficient and couldn't handle a higher overclock on the CPU, but you should be fine with that video card.

Is it posiebel/needed for an IC7-G to have a Vmod?
beacause I can boot anf have a stabel machine at 250 Fsb and 1.475 @ 1.55 Vcore
But i have Warm and cold boot issues. I have to up the Vcore to 1.625 before i geet rid of the issue!
Also a 30 Caps SL6WU 512 kb l2.

Well i have a SL6WK with full caps, vmem and droop modded p4p800 2 x 512bm twinmos bh5 and tsp420w.
I can do 3.6Ghz with droopmod, without 3.3Ghz. Bad thing is i cant run my mem 1:1, even with 3,4,4,8 and 3.2V no go at fsb240. :(
You guys think it might be the board?

my P4 is a P4 2.4C and it does 3.8Ghz on air 24/7 at default voltage with the ram set 1:1. runs full load at 54*C and is stable (has been running for 4 months since last down time) so your temps arent TOO bad. saying that i always start to worry a bit when mine gets inbto the 60's (when dad is home nad has heating cranked up)
owen
It loses its OC potential... I know 3 guys and myself... Mine did 3.8Ghz (254 FSB) 1.625 Vcore... Now it wont do more than 245Mhz FSB even with 1.8Vcore ;) too bad really... But another guys did 4Ghz... Then it dropped to 3.8... Then he sold it...

Yea, that usually happens with AEPs. I've already had 3 of them, they all faint at "more than 1.6V" (which, FYI, is more than 1.6V on a droop-modded P4C800, just measure the voltage on a coil pin).
