Here is what i am getting friday from newegg. My goal is to hit 2.5Ghz with stock cooling. I have read several times where it has been done, just wondering if anyone has any opinions on it. The RAM is suppose to run 1:1 with the CPU at 250Mhz, so lets hope it does it..lol

3200 Winchester 90nm
1024mb PC4000 Geil Ultra
NEO2 Platinum Motherboard
74gb Raptor Drive
160gb SATA drive
Thermaltake TSunami VA3000 Black case

Lemme know. I would be happy with 2.4Ghz as well. Im upgrading from a Mobile 2500 Barton @ 2.4Ghz on air.

2.4 would be very likely.
2.5 may be attainable (depending on quality of chip week/stepping).
its a total crapshoot these days!
Search for or, (if no luck) make a new thread about the highest speeds reached with a neo2 and your ram config if you want to be sure about the 250 MHz possibility.
make sure your PSU is up to the task too.
Good luck!

Well anyone can take a wild ass guess, but it don't mean JACK. The only way to tell how fast it will run is by actually overclocking it and testing for stability. You're paying for a 2.0 Gig. CPU so if it runs above 2.0 Gig. then you are getting FREE performance you didn't pay for no matter what speed it runs stable at.

If it makes ya feel warm and fuzzy I predict your 3200+ will run at 3.0 Gig. air-cooled. That's 10 x 300 MHz ! WOW, now you should be one happy camper until of course you actually test and find it won't run at that speed !

In addition the Winchester only has ONE stepping and that is "D0". The week of mfg. has absolutely no influence on how fast the CPU will run.

haha. 2.4 should be ok, 2.5 stable might be pushing it...

I have 3200+ and I can easily push it to 2.55 ghz on stock air.

please post how your memory does, I have the same stuff and am waiting for NForce4, and am really curious as how it does with A64. Thanks.

sure thing stelleg. It''ll be a bit, as i have 3 to build in the next 10 days. Il let you know.

Oh, and the PSU is an Ultra Modular X-Connect 500 Watt.

I wish i couldve waited for those boards stelleg, but i needed to get it all done before christmas, and i didnt want to have to spring for a new video card just yet. NF4 w/ SLI is my summer project next year :)

2.5Ghz shouldnt be a problem with a 3200+ Winny. I could get mine stable at 2.5Ghz using 1.5vcore, however this was with xp-90 hsf.

The only concern would be the ram and psu. Make sure you het your self a good and solid psu, that supplies at least 30A on 12V rail. The OCZ 520W is great, thats what im using right now. I have been looking at PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe ATX Power Supply, a bit pricy but from the reviews that i read its very solid. PC P&C use high quality parts, the hsf is larger than normal psu and the capasitors are heavy duty.

Here at ocaus forums there has been few reports with Geil 4000 and Neo2 compability issues o/cing 1:1
You better of getting some TCCD chips :D

I have a 500w Modular Ultra X-Connect PSU. Every review says it is rock solid stable. I have been using it on a Mobile Barton for about 3 weeks and it seems to hold up very nicely. Rock solid Rails.

As for the stuff, it came in today. I have a week 41 Winchester. Im not sure what bios version i have yet, as i wont be building it until saturday, but hopefully it is an updated one to support winchester. I got it from newegg today.

As for the ram, what an impressive package it came in. Glass case that looks like it should be holding a $10,000 baseball card or something....lol. Looks to have a temp gauge right on the heat spreaders as well.

And also, does anyone know about this CPU grease that the Geil ram came with? It is the color of copper and looks to be good stuff, but ya never know.

i've never really had great luck overclocking my cpu's but i was able to get my 3200+ up to 10x250 stable on the same motherboard as you. it ran games etc pretty well at 10x255 but was most stable at 10x250. i was using ocz pc3200 rev2 with an ocz 520 psu.

I might be a bit confused, but weren't some members here hitting 2.7-2.8 Ghz on air with 3000/3200 (OCZ booster for the RAM or drop the multi on the HT).

OC to 2.5Ghz is 25% for A64-3200 and 39% for A64-3000. Not quite AXP1700+, but then again, AMD and Intel are really straining on the clock speeds.

What is the latest stepping for the 3200+? The last I read was 0433

0441 are the latest i´ve heard of.. But i have no idea how the clock etc...
My 0433spmw seems to be a pretty decent overclocker.. just if i get hold of my wierd high temp problem :p:

Hey Joe, just checking up on how its coming along, I know you said you have to build 3, but Im excited. I am also trying to build before christmas, but its not looking good. I have x700pro already, just waiting for motherboard. I have week 35 and am a bit worried, havent seen any good ones yet. Good luck with the build.

Week 41 eh ? Looks like you got a good one. Im hoping for a week 41 or new on my 3000+ Im getting for christmas. I told my parents to wait as long as possible before ordering. Judging from the other week 41s preformance you should be able to hit 2.5GHz on air pretty easy ! :toast: :toast:

Hope its a good chip.

just avoid 0437wpcw if you can, thats mine... its not a great overclocker. i think someone else said the same thing about week 37.

are u crazy??we are all buffed by marketing mens to buy better and better psus, but i'll just state my case. CPU winch at 10x266(1.45+10%) , 512 ram Bh-5 at 3.4volt ,1x36g raptor, 1x200gb jb, 1x40gb jb, 1 dvd-rom, 1dvd-r,4x80mm fans (quiet though),Ti4600 volt moded ,tv tuner, wifi, audigy, isdn modem , and all this stable , by.... a Chiefteck 340watt psu , with 17a in its 12 rail. Of course f i had an 6800 ultrA Id need 5-6 amps more (if accept that "i walk on the edge" with this psu) totaly 22-23amps... For gods sake lets stop be consuming monsters

I just recieved my 3200+ from Monarch. The stepping is 0441SPMW. Now I can get started on building my own christmas present. Here's my other stuff.
Hope the 3200+ will give me a good OC.

Works fine so far. 2.6Ghz works, but for some reason i had a shutdown in a game i was playing. Until i figure out what was causing it, i went back to 2.5. May need more RAM or VCore.

Right now VCore is at 1.50 +3.3 and RAM is at 1.80

2.5 is all i wanted out of this thing anyway, and it has not dissappointed. Memory Bandwidth in sandra is off the charts, and the CPU seems to handle anything i can throw at it with ease.

It took 6:54 to load windows, i timed it. Of course that is with a raptor. This is not amazing however, my boss built a 3500 with 1gig of Corsair XMS and a raptor, and loaded in 7:24. Apparently 64 bit paired with a raptor is almost a gauranteed "Sub" 10 minute windows load. Nice!!

Im ordering a 6800GT friday. The gigabyte one with the nice heatsink, pipe combo on it for 399.00 on newegg. So with that in mind, the new system specs:

Winchester 3200 @ 2.5Ghz stable
1024mb Geil Ultra PC4000 "Dual Channel"
74gig Raptor 10,000 RPM SATA
160gb Western Digital SATA
500w X-Connect Modular PSU (ultra)
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Black case w/Acrylic Window
Compro Videomate Gold Plus Capture/Tuner card
CD Burner/DVD Rom Combo
16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
GigaByte 256mb DDR3 6800GT
21" CRT Monitor
Logitech Z-680 Speaker system

i had 3 x 3200+ 0441 TPBW and the best i got through superpi8m were 2550MHz with 1,65V so i had VERY bad luck with those processors :(
