this card any good for OC'ing purposes? anyone with any experience of gainward products?

i'm looking into getting this card and understand gainward to be quite a prestigious manufacturer, and i understand the "Golden Sample" cores are hand picked for quality.

also is there anyone i could send this card to for voltage mods? i dont have the expertise to undertake it myself.

to ensure this thread doesnt get moved/deleted, plz post your overclocking experiences or any hints/tips for 6800GT or Gainward cards, thx in advance :)

This that water cooled one from factory? If not gainward still apparantly uses just teh highest quality stuff from what i have read but who knows. Ive had a BFG and leadtek 6800GT and the leadtek wouldnt do ultra speeds while the BFG would go beyond them.

nah this is the aircooled one with 2 fans on it, but i'll rip that off and use a chiller setup, and some good quality home-made ramsinks.

so its possible to get a GT to do ultra speeds? cos i seen the ultra from gainward but thats priced at about £450 for aircooled and about £650 for watercooled.

i nearly bought a Gainward Cool FX 5950Ultra golden sample a while back for £750 but due to stock problems i cancelled the order.

at that price would of been a kick-ass card.

I have the 6800GT GS from Gainward, and it does what it promises. You will get 400mhz on the core and 1100mhz on the RAM, that is guarenteed, but beyond that is anyones guess. I can run mine stable in 3DMark05 at 429/1140mhz, 420/1120mhz for all benches/games etc, but I am short on better aircooling and I think I can get more out of it.

I am happy about my GS, but if you can get the 6800GT GS GLH(Goes Like Hell), then that would be a better purchase. It'll do 400/1200mhz guarenteed and should be a better buy than the normal GS.

Both will do Ultra speeds, that you shouldn't worry about.

£750??? You mean £75, right? :p:

I have thought about getting a cheap £50 TI4200 Silver Millinium edition, just to get some fun numbers, but I have a hard time "stepping" back, as it would only be for benchmarks. I think my next card will be the 850XT PE, if an AGP is released(probably already is).

i deffo meant £750, it was when the 5950 ultra was first released, gainward charged an extortionate price for it.

www.extreme64.com just reviewed its older bro, the GLH model... same just /w faster memory..

OK, i'm gonna get the GLH model, 100mhz overclock on the core for a 6800XT with stock cooling is awesome, and 1250mhz memory is insane too, can deffo get beyond ultra speeds with 1 of these, and nice price aswell.

no way i'll be sticking with gainwards reccomended speeds :D

cool, glad you liked it :) i wasnt allowed to flash to a modded bios but i hear if you stick 1.5V thru it instead of 1.4V u can get an even higher overclock, The card goes back to gainward 2mrw, i will be sad to see it go....

i hope you dont have any problems, because i talked with gainward today about an RMA and they dont have an "advanced rma" and they just laid off 50 employees, said the company isnt doing good... kinda scared me.. thats only after calling for 3-4 days without a returned call or a call-back from messages i left...

Hmmm, that's not a good sign. Was that Gainward Europe or Gainward USA / other ?

is Gainward really reliable ?

I know a lot of people including myself where the fan of the geforce 5600 stopped working correctly

it makes a weird sound at boot up for 2 mintues

Im currently using Gainward 6800GT 'GS' its been nice card. As Gainward guarantee using Expertool and selecting 'enhanced mode' which is running the card @ 400/1100, no problems at all.

I could bench no problems at 420/1200, anything over 420 core theres problems for me.

A better card to get is Gainward 6800GT 'GS' GLH, using 'enhance mode' 400/1200 and clocks much higher then non GLH.

well as soon as i got the cash i'm deffo getting one, i dont wanna jump on the SLI bandwagon yet, the technology is new and will probably be surpassed by a single slot solution next year.

isnt that a good thing? cheaper than an Ultra from the same manufacturer, but at crazy speeds.

and sorry mr moderator for the way i wrote that, but i'm a newbie to the forum and can never find anything when it gets moved, didnt mean to cause any offence :toast:

The card's core is detected as a 6800GT, Nvidia only supply the bios for 6800GT's with the clock speeds at 350/1ghz and no more... The difference between these 6800GT's and others is that these have been pre tested before hand to make sure they are good overclockers.... This way, gainward make more money by selling the cards as guarenteed overclockers and also they dont break any agreement with nvidia...

As for the gainward going bust statement, i think that is complete rubbish.

TheTrebleKing
12-09-2004, 02:06 PM
i can see the reasoning for someone to say gainward is going bust, with their products they do cost alot, and are pretty much out of reach of the mainstream consumer, and their high-end cards are sometimes OTT with pricing. so i imagine they wouldnt sell as much as a company like XFX or ASUS.

i could be talking complete poo, but hey i'm a newie :D

but for the Xtreme(ly Rich) they are ideal i guess :p:

i have gainward 6800GT "plain edition! ;-)" . To my surprise It had 2ns memory well as far as i know only "Ultra" have 2ns. Modifying the BIOS to 1.4v overclocks up to 440+Μhz on air and 460+ watercooled. Memory can go up to 1300Μhz...of course there are many artifacts above 1200Mhz

well this 6800GT "GLH" ships with default 350/1000 all the overclocking is done with the utility, so this is 1 bad-ass overclockable card :D

getting 100mhz on the core and 200mhz on the ram is something nice for stock cooling.

i read benchmarks and in some things it even beats an X800XT-PE
the X800XT-PE was at stock, but just shows u can get that sort of performance out of a cheaper card.

so this is a real bargain, and would deffo take some 6800GT record in 3dmark.

TheTrebleKing

when i get this card i'm gonna work on some custom water cooling.

i had an idea for cooling the ram:

make my own ramsinks with 1/4" thick copper plate, and drill a hole thru the base, kinda hard to explain, but run copper tubing thru all the ramsinks and hook it up to a watercooling setup, so essentially having watercooled RAM on the graphics card, should be able to get 1300mhz+ stable and maybe 460mhz on the core, i'm only a newb but i'll give it a go :D

Apples and Mangoes...

True the GLH is a good buy, but its certainly not the only card that can do X800XT-PTE performance for lower price tag. Take a X800PRO-VIVO for example...

i think that RAM doent need watercooling...what desperately need watercooling are the mosfets of the card
