i did a volt mod on my dfi ulta infinity last night to the vdimm and was running 3.5 through them and it was all good. Then i had a heatsink just sitting on the small chip at the end of the agp slot and it got bumped and i think was shorting out the resistors. now it woulnt post. It kinda smelled like something burned and i saw it. so i took a pic. what you think?

haha... ya.. i think she's fried.
arctic silver is conductive... and that burn mark looks bad.

Hmm, I would consider it part of the topic, Clean the crap off and try it, if it don't work you killed it....

better oc wise? no... feature wise yes, there are new boards from asus and epox with gb lan and 8 channel sound i think... migh as well have a newer nb so might oc good... but not as good as the dfi i think.

maybe think about going 64-bit.

next time use arctic ceramique for something like that .... but still try to keep the spread of it to a minimum.

i know it was too much AS but thats not what killed it...the stuff is non-conductive.
I thought about going 64-bit but it will cost a ton of cash. I already have a socket A proc, waterblock, and the ram for a 32-bit rig.
im not worried about features as the lanparty already has i think all that you listed.
ill just get a lanparty this time i think....
it was the heatsink that killed the thing.
heres a pic of how big it was compared to the chip... (http://moops.tk/kirk/DSC00055.JPG)
