ive seen some pretty adament people on this subject. so im not going to say if a person should or shouldnt use it. but i havent been for sometime now.
24/7 for a solid month now.
i did insulate really well and filled the backplate with neoprene closed cell foam. so far no problems.
this is a modded mach one BTW. cpu temps are -40 no load

well, with proper insulation and neoprene in there, yeah it should work fine
I have been running my system this way for months.
Of course I took all the proper precautions :D

Welcome to xs Bmod! :)
Thanks lalPooo for the greatings
I have been recieving great tips from the hole community, and I look forward to
seeing some great threads
Thanks again

Welcome Bmod....
Never used the heater, and NP at all, but from all I've read and heard if you live in a high humidity environment its a good idea..

i live in a swamp, (arkansas) and no problems. as long as its sealed and stays sealed it is fine.
nothing like a good insulation job

Problem is not everyone has those results/isn't as carefull.

It is allways their ownt choice
If you think you do not need the heater, don't use it. But if you are not sure, definately use it :D.
I've never run with the heater. In fact, there isn't any heater at all in the mach1 kits. Just a few mm extra neopreen on the backplate comes with the kit.
i am running a heater :D on my mach 1

I am not running my. Extra insulation on the back and a very hot CPU (2.4a @ 3.9). Under load, the front panel temps go to -26c.
ok, as i was wondering about this just today, this thread comes in pretty handy :). does anyone know, what the wattage of those heatpads is? mach2 heatpads actually, since a friend just dismanteled his mach2 evap, because it was all messed up after a bad shipping (thanks to the ebay seller) stunt. so know he needs to know what to replace that original pad with?
i've got a 12V 1.5A (15W) heatpad that i'll lend him if necessary, but is it sufficient?

I did not use the heater for about a mounth and I got condensation on the back of the board. I had 1/4 inch neoprene on the back of the board sealed with seal string. I went back to using the heater on the back.

It really depends on temp I think. My mach 1 which was about 10-15c warmer never needed one with "proper" heatpad. However, this mach 2 r404, gets cold enough where i've seen starting of condensation without heatpad. Taking heatpad off is strictly for benching for me now.
hm, i was told the mach2 heatpad delivers ~7w in case anyone needs that info. just though to pass it on.

My Mach1 came with a heater...
I never used it though.
Just the backplate over a perfect piece of neoprene over some grease, and never had a problem.

using the stock M1 (no mod gas) and sealed with just the string everywhere do you think using no heater is ok?

I run a Mach1 @ r507 on A64 @ 2900mhz 1.8v
stressed it is -41c (fans full speed)
This is with a big heatload. Idle it stays at -46

I don't use heaters on my Mach II or Mach I. I just do a decent job with neoprene and dielectric grease.

I would use the heater elements if you are a beginner for sure. FOR ME though, I say using the heater elements is kinda counter productive to what you are trying to do. Also the added insulation needed to run the mach with no heater elements also aids in well err uhh insulation of the cold which is another benefit. I got 5 dgrees better cooling when running no heat pads and air tight insulation and a modified clip. I modified the clip to sit flush with the board so I dont use any seal string either. I use special dielectric grease to seal all gaps and special fiberglass dacron insulation wrapped in closed cell neoprene tape to seal the whole evap head and the backside of the mother board. I also insulated the suction hose a lot better and wrapped the cap tube around the bare suction line to add another meter of cap tube when i switched to R404. Also a different micro controller controls the whole thing with a special switch-mode power supply supplying 14.4 volts to all the fans and the mach unit with a different start up circuit. the extra 14.4 volt supply makes the fans spin a bit faaster which is why i use that.
it's amazing the things you can do when you know what your doing :D
i kinda wanna know if pc ice or anyone like that runs heaters on theyr rigs.

Hope no one minds I bump this thread. I went without a heater on my axp but now on a64 I tried to mock up my own solution and I'm having serious problems. On my AXP setup I basically just tossed the heater, the provided neoprene foam filled the entire space in the back bracket. Now there is room for nothing but the heater. Anyways, I dont even know what to do with those things (maybe heaters just come with machII kits?). I used a thin piece of cardboard to fill the indent for the heater, cheesy I know but i thought it would help for even pressure, and cut a piece of neoprene to the shape of the back bracket, and then said bracket squishes the foam onto the board. Basically a mockup of my axp way just the side of the neoprene is exposed which I covered amply with seal string.
I was wondering what you people do on a64 in particular? Also since I'm a new found hardware killer it seems.... how do you even use the heater? I have a machII kit but a machI unit. I dont know where the two pinned heater even gets its power from.

I wouldn't use cardboard because it is not resistant to moisture at all and is a pretty lousy insulator according to homeless people.
What I did was use standoffs to hold the rear plate 0.75in away from the back of the motherboard and used neoprene and other insulating foams in the space between. If you just use neoprene and foam to support the rear plate, the plate can shift if you use a lot of pressure and your seal will be bad. You need something more firm than cardboard to support the rear plate ;) .
On my Mach I, I also saw no place to connect the rear plate heater they supply. The only connector like that inside the unit is for the evaporator heater and obviously it is being used. Great thinking by the previous owners of the MACH chillers who I guess would be Chip-Con. Seams ECT is doing a better job this time around with the Mach Chillers. They seam to have learned from the previous two owners' mistakes.
