im considering purchasing a DTR 3400+ chip, but ive heard the a64 mach ii mounting kit doesnt work properly with chips with no IHS...is this true, and can it be fixed? if so, how?

well i bought the 3400+ DTR, so im commited to finding a way to make this work. i think i may do some kind of mod combined with the socket A kit...

im still looking for any opinions/experience with this.
i was thinking maybe if i bought a used IHS or got a piece of copper in between...but that's just more thermal resistance...

Search for posts by cowpuppy.... I think it was in one of his posts that he showed how he managed to 100% contact on a dtr. I believe he had to sand of the mobo bracket a lttle. Hmm was it cowpuppy or kingpin i forget...

okay, now im thinking, why not just get the regular a64 kit and buy a used IHS? opinions?
also, i have a copper coldplate that's about 1.75" x 1.75" x .25"...could that be used instead of an IHS?

alright, ive settled on lapping a 1/8" cold plate down a little, then thermal expoying it to the MachII head, so the mod can be undone in the furure with little hassle. sound good?
