View Full Version : P4 570J E0 arrived
The Stilt
11-22-2004, 01:05 PM
My new toy arrived in the noon today :D
It´s Malaysian 570J (3.8GHz) cpu from week 38, and best of all its E0 stepping.
The box (http://www.akiba-pc.com/570J/SL82U.jpg)
After quick testing it could run SuperPi at 4522MHz (19x238) with stock heatsink and fan (running at full speed) after setting 1.45V from bios :D
Too bad that macci took my KHX sticks with him to München, so I cant run any proper benches until wendsday. Dammit :(

4500MHz ON AIR, and you aren't really impressed? You are really extreme :D
Has this and the trip to Germany something to do with the ace Macci mentioned ealier? :)
jjcom

...mmmm....4.5ghz on AIR  wonder what those things would do under water or chilled water....I'm just waiting for someone to get 5ghz on water some day...I don't think that will happen yet, but after seeing those screen shots...what ever your doing over in Germany or where ever let us know when your done!
Kunaak
11-22-2004, 03:27 PM
it's kinda hard to be impressed with only a 700 mhz OC, especially for a P4.
but the shots do show some incredible potential for sub zero, and LN2 :D
jjcom
11-22-2004, 03:34 PM
yeah but you have to look at it from this point of view, its the highest clocked stock Prescott around, 3.8ghz is all the farther Intel is taking there P4. So Intel won't be looking into ways to make that chip clock anyfarther. It seems that basicly most of the Intel's research teams are working on dual core, so little work will be done here.
Kunaak
11-22-2004, 04:24 PM
but it's still only 700 mhz.
if you had a 4.0 ghz P4, would you be stoked that it was doing 4.4 ghz stable?
I wouldn't.
4.5 ghz just isn't that much these days.
people have been breaking 5 ghz on phase change for quite a while now.
6 ghz is the new 5 ghz.
thats what makes 4.5 ghz kinda small these days.
it's good and all.
its just not the same as when you use to get a 2.4C and get 3.6 ghz out of it easy.
but these definatly are the last of the breed, so it's nice to see some numbers outta them, but I am more interested in what it does under better cooling.
if a 3.6 can get 6.3 ghz, what in the world will this thing do?
thats what I can't wait to see ;)

i'd like to see some 5-5.5ghz 3dmark runs... we've seen superpi runs up to 5.7ghz, lets see some 3d runs. ;)
6 ghz is the new 5 ghz.
how true, and 5ghz is the new 4ghz... being do-able with -40C, as opposed to having to have ln2.
jjcom
11-22-2004, 05:01 PM

If I understand the Intel documents correcty, and they are vague so I could be wrong, you'll need a 925XE board to have any use of EM64T on the 775 socket. So to test whether it's capable you'd have to at least have that chipset.
I'm quite impressed with what we're seeing on air however.
Also note that while Intel won't be pushing these things to higher clocks, they have been slowly improving the process under the chip, thus getting cooler and cooler running chips at the clocks they already have. So, for those of us who push chips, you may yet see improvements that will come primarily from improvements in the production process rather than design improvements. It has also been known in the past for manufacturing to issue "please add this improvement please" memo's to design to change design because that will improve the overall chip. Ok that was confusing, but basically manufacturing has often found improvements that were never found by design, and thus changes are still possible, just not AS likely. Bear in mind there were no significant design changes to the P3, yet for years the P3-M's kept getting faster and better. Given the ceiling that appears to have been hit on P4's and clockspeed, I'm not expecting huge improvements, but there are bound to be some.
Be kind of funny to see people hitting 5ghz on air in 2005... wouldn't it?

Breaking 5GHz (http://www.akiba-pc.com/570J/5065MHz.PNG) with single stage compressor took only 1.475V.
CPU-Z Verified (http://www.akiba-pc.com/570J/cfc.PNG)
SuperPI went through at 4946MHz (http://www.akiba-pc.com/570J/SPI1M-4946MHz.PNG) with 1.45V only.
Setup (http://www.akiba-pc.com/570J/Setup.jpg)
Notice that ammo box under the hardware, 7,62mm one size fits all ;)
Noticed a strange thing when I measured vcore from mosfets.
When vcore is set to 1.475V from bios, I got 1.23V reading from every single mosfet from cpu power regulation. When vcore is set to 1.4V the reading is
1.17V  Is that caused by new thermal management 2 of E0 stepping or what?
Maybe we´ll see what this chip can do at minus 140c and with DFI 875P-T... ;)
Soon...
