I just beat doom 3 tonight.
took me about a month.

seems this game is either hit or miss, some people loved it, some hated it.
I personally loved it.
wandering around with my flashlight, and sometimes in the dark with just my machine gun, I loved it. I love games like silent hill that play tricks on you, and scare you, not by what you see, but by making you wondering whats around the corner, whats gonna happen next.
I loved the scare tactics of the game, sometimes it didn't quite work, other times it worked so damn well I would get that "OH SHeeeT" twitch, and jump in my chair.
I played the game with headphones late at night most of the time, so there was no disconnection from me, and the game, with the background sounds in my house, so that just made the creepy parts just that much better.
this is really a game that deserves some top end sound to really be appreciated, but a good set of headphones and EAX do wonders too ;)

I had the luck of playing the game from start to end on a super nice PC, so I was really stoked to max out the resolutions and have a fully playable game.
I had a ton of fun playing it, but I admit, I sucked at it.
I got killed alot, and had to redo areas over, cause of forgetting to quicksave every once in a while, but I think playing the game, the way it was meant to be played, just made it 100 times more fun to me.
I beat it on veteran so I can play nightmare mode, not sure if I am ready to restart the game, but I am pretty stoked to have finally beat this game.

It's not bad but at the middle and after u really know what's happen next !
And the Hell is too short I think !
It took me 8h on Veteran and around 14 on Nightmare,.. extremly difficult --> monster respawn :D

That's just the way I played it to man. Late at night, headphones (Grado's)...all lights out....sets the perfect mood for this game. Won't say what else I do...should probably keep that to myself :banana4: :banana4:

i was too bored to keep playing after i reached hell...

i just finished all 3 alien vs predator campaigns again tonight :D difficulty set the the hardest of course :D

kunaak, if you liked doom3 because of the scare tactics you gotta play avp2! the game is very old (1999 or 2000) but the graphics are amazing thinking about how old the game is already! now i can play it with super stable fps with aa and af :D

avp2 is sooo much scarier than doom3 :D the game is 100% like your right in the movies alien2 or predator2 ...great game! cant wait for avp3 :D

Doom3, i loved it.. and still like it very much. At first I had to leave the background noise and TV on while playing this game in the bright light.... :D coz I got scared. Especially in hell, I had dinner and played in hell and felt....... sick. I felt like throwing up. I really really hate that flying faces thing. It is very disturbing. Other than that, I enjoyed killing the monsters...

Now it usually takes about 7 hours to finish the whole game. Usually played first 4 hours and finish the rest next time i play.

The Doom3 does have some *outstanding* graphics.. set it to "Ultra quality" and @ 8X AF and 2X AA. It's the best graphics I had ever seen.

Kunnak, I really love the way you say things. I enjoy reading your posts. :D

well it took me 2 weeks or so to finish it. but that was caused by me getting bored somewhere around the halfwaypoint of the game (whatever that is). i really liked the atmosphear of the game, though i found it boring regarding its straightforwardness. and of course i played it at night, surround speakers a good deal loud - when no one else was in the house... scared the hell out of me, everytime i heard a scraping noise i was like wtf did that come from. great stuff. having surround sound really helps the creepyness of this game.
besides that, i don't really feel like playing it again, at least not in its entire length, rather parts or certain levels of it.

anyway i have to admit i didn't love the original doom parts too much either. i think the 2nd lasted on my drive for about as long as it took to install, plus the same time for playing... i really like a good story to go with a game - even a fps, that's why i'm bored with hl² as well.

Saaya, Aliens VS. Predator was the reason I bought my first PC.
it's also my most heavily modded game I own.

can't run on windows XP my butt.
it's not easy, but I can do it.
even got a nice little file I made with notes on how to make it run on XP :D

personally I never found AVP to be scary-at all.
pretty much run of the mill really.
but it was alot of fun.
very hard.
when I got that, it took me about 2 weeks to finally beat it.
I've only beat about 5-6 PC games total, but thats one of them.

never played AVP2, I got caught up in morrowind, when that came out, if I remember right.

beat doom 3 in 7 hours?
man that would be hard.
maybe if I played it on easy or something.
or used some gun light mods, and enhanced weapons.
half the time through the game I was running around looking for ammo cause there just wasn't much left.... cause of miss fire.... hahaha...

dude, you get me in the dark, then something jumping at me, I am just gonna shoot.
I went through alot of ammo in this game.

It doesn' really matter the FPS, I sit down and do it in 6+ hour sessions :P. I dunno once i start a FPS i find it rather hard to drop it and .. uh work on hmw?

Saaya... I took out my old AVP fix file, but theres no notes in it, just the files, so I can't quite remember how to do it.

I installed AVP 5 times today in the last hour, and I keep screwing the game up beyond the point of it being able to boot anymore, so I have to redo everything....

the solution lies somewhere after updating to version 098, then switching the Fastfile TEX1 and TEX30, then putting a new BinkW32.DLL file into the Windows/system area...

I thought.

I can't quite remmeber how to do this, I may have a second AVP fix file with the notes on another CD somewhere, so I will look for it, but at the moment, I can only get it to the point where the game is about to play, then the Config file screws the whole thing up.

I can fix the skipping sound, and the low graphics, and the memory leak error, but can't get the game to boot...

its either the config file, something about direct X 9, or I am just plain old screwing up the fix, and doing them in the wrong order.
unfortunatly, 30 minutes on google brought up nothing...
and I just can't remember how to do this right.

I can transfer you the whole file if you want to try it yourself.
