View Full Version : TCCD and Intel?

How do the newer TCCD memories (such as G.Skill) perform on Intel?
I see a lot of good results from the A64 crowd but as far as 865/875 go how do they fare? I want to build a new rig but can only afford so much atm (just bought a new car) so I am getting only the necessary stuff, mainly memory to replace my 2x256mb HyperX BH-5.
What could I do with 4x512mb or 2x1024mb of TCCD at 2.85v on P4P800?
And which brand would you recommend?

My PQI PC3200 Turbo TCCD 2x256 memory did alright on my P4.. 280MHz 2.5-4-3-5, probably could of gone higher but was CPU limited.

Not bad but what i'm really looking for are results of 4x512 or 2x1024mb.
Is 250 2-2-2-5 @ 2.85v possible on Intel? It may be asking a bit much but it never hurts to ask.
If anything 2.5-3-3-7 isn't too bad.

Well my 2x512 gskill did what they should on my abit digidice board.. iit was the cpu who said no, not the memorys but i managed a 272fsb superpi 1m stable...
I dont think theyll do 250 2-2-2-5 @ 2,85... but i guess its not impossible..

I really doubt 250MHz 2-2-2-5 @ 2.85v is possible with TCCD, especially on Intel. If you are looking to run 250-260MHz FSB at 2-2-2-5, you should get some BH5 or wait for OCZ's upcoming voltmaster memory. I had bh5 in my old P4 and it ran great, make sure to get a DDR booster though so you can at least run 3.2v through it to get 250MHz with 2-2-2-5 timings. With TCCD 2.5-3-3-7 @ 250MHz is very likely on Intel.
For 2-2-2-5 to 255fsb, 3.1v :)

I have 2x256mb HyperX BH-5.
BH-5 will NOT run 250 2-2-2-5 in 4x512 or 2x1024mb (this doesnt even exist for those chips) no matter the volts.

So they probably do 250 2.5-3-3-7 then?
And what volts?

hehe...for showing only?
Dual DDR570 2.5-3-3-5 @2.8v..pass prime95...too
(seldom error under memtest86+)
i will post the screeny later...
Here come the 2.5-3-3-5 ddr570 screeny...

Yes. 250 easily at 2.5-3-3-7 at around 2.7vdimm. My pdp xbl will do 2-3-3-6 up to 250 with just 2.8vdimm.

My 4x512mb of PDP TCCD won't do 254mhz at even 3-4-4-8. Prime crashes in about 10 hours or so give or take 3 hours. I can only get it to go at 203mhz at 2.5-3-3-7 so far. I'm going to see if I can get lower timings as soon as I verify this is 100% stable.
Quick question for someone that might know. I've primed for over 24 hours without errors, but occasionally, explorer will still crash at random times. Is this because of my windows installation, or is it because my hardware might not be stable?

Hardware not being stable.

Also I would assume that 2x1024mb sticks would be a more stable combo than filling all 4 dimm slots with 512mb? Or am I wrong?

Got to 279mhz @ 2.5-3-3-7, 2.8v with 2x512 PQI on Abit AI7 / 2.8c.

Yes, they would be much more stable. But not enough people have 2x 1024mb sticks so who knows how well they over clock. All the 2gig sets i've seen for sale are high latency.

This stuff (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=20-220-033&depa=0) needs a 2x1024mb kit then .
Their 2Gb kit (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=20-220-011&depa=0) has a good price and decent timings, I wonder how they would do. It doesn't have XBL though.
The PQI (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=20-141-182&depa=0) is similarly priced but has worse rated timings.
What are the other options for 2 gigs?

hynix... but not really... only with 3-4-4 maybe...
corsair ballistix? are there 1gb sticks?
dont forget that 2gb of memory will stress the mainboard much much more than 512mb of memory! vdimm and vref will be more out of range and fluctuate more, and the average vdimm and vref will probably drop the more memory you have, so dont expect too much. pm or email freecableguy, he managed to get 4 512mb sticks of bh to run at 250 2-2-2 iirc. he found a mod to stabilize vdimm and vref, no idear if he ever posted about the mod after that...

I'm eyeing the Patriot 2Gb Kit. If I don't get any negative replies about this memory I think i'll order it tonight and give it a try.
It isn't the XBL but it looks like they don't make that in 1Gb sticks.

Grabbed this (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductdesc.asp?description=20-220-011&depa=0) kit, ill post results later in the week when I receive them.
