Hi all,

I have searched and searched but I still don't have a solid feeling about this so here we go:

I have an ic7-g mobo, and currently a 3.0c (first stepping not a 30 capper or anything), I can get it to 3.75ghz 100% stable with a home made chiller (-30c at the res, , -12 c at the chip or so mbm5 says).

Heres the question, I am unsatisfied with my chip being maxed out at 3.75, I am looking for 4ghz + so what chip do you think would do it. Im looking at 200 - 300 ish dollars. Northy or presscot doesnt matter, just give me some suggestions as I dont want to make a bad choice which will haunt me for at least a year

Thanks for any input

new prescott, wait till the e0 stepping are obtainable though..

3.2E D0 will do it, and it's cheap.

Ya, I agree the 3.2E D0 is such a cheap an nice upgrade. I can get this chip stable over 4.1 on my P4C-800E set up on air with droop mod.

Ok heres a question, how do presscot voltages work? currently my IC7-g wont go lower than the stock vcore of 1.525.... when I stick the pressy in what happens? The stock voltage is 1.35v or something? Will it be that or will it be 1.525 (sounds dangerous)? And finally if its at 1.3x will I have options to raise it .05 volts like I do now with my northy.

Thanks for any input

hmmm hard to tell, does the board officially support prescotts? if yes then it should run at 1.35v. i think the highest you will want on your prescott is 1.6v anyways, and im sure the bios will let you go there :)

but generally... id recommend you to get a 775 865pe board...

Gotta love the IC7-G :)

I managed to find a 3.2 sl7b8, so im running at 3.2ghz ... 230 fsb ... thats the good old 14 multi :slobber: Heh im excited, its probably the closest ill ever come to an ES chip. I was thinking of going D0 stepping as I couldnt find the E0 anywhere, but when I saw the 14 multi chip I coudlnt pass that up. Anyway, the bios did detect the voltage correctly, and im finally getting good use out of this ocz 3700 eb (1:1 at 230, for once no divider)

I have not yet had a chance to play with the chip other than set the multi to 14 and push it back to 3.2.

Thanks for the info all, without this site I would have never gotten a chance to change a multi on a P4 :)

Ill post my results here as I get a chance to really test this beast :D

Where did you get that processor at?

I vote for the 3.4C - its the highest clocked Socket 478 chip and puts 4 Ghz within easy reach.

Where did you get that processor at?

Near where I live we have micropro computer shows (King of prussia PA) So I picked it up at one of the vendors there. Beyond PC corp was the company, I did that because I got to look at over 30 prescott stepping numbers, and I only found this one b8 (rest were all some kind of D0).

Will post some results tonight.

I didn't play with the 16 multi yet, I took me all day to get this stable. Bios vcore is 1.4125v, I can get to the welcome screen at 4ghz, but it wont get to my desktop, this is at 1.565 v I think. Can pressys go higher?

-oh and this is the unpatched superpi
