Well I'll be selling my OCZ 4200-EL Platinum (I just got) for some of these babies!... : )What FSB and timings are you running those at?

I can only manage 246FSB at 2.5-2-2-5 stable.... 246 x 12 = 2952 is the max overclock i can get from my fx-55
I've had them both up to 290FSB at 3-4-4-8 with sandra passing, but nothing else

I think I maybe limited by the onboard memory controller of the processor... I'm going to see how I get on with this memory - I might RMA my CPU in 6 months time and hopefully get a newer week one... My current one is week 41.

I don't see the point in people benchmarking 1 x 512Mb stick... 512Mb in a system ain't enough, 1Gb is minimum really... So why benchmark one 512Mb stick when it has no "real-life" purpose?... (well in my opinion)

Ill bench using one 256meg stick if I get a higher 3dmark score, and I do..
Depends on what your after, high benches or usefull PC.
I allways stick another stick of ram in once im done with 3dmark.
I run my PC with 512mb all the time. I have the option to run 768 (3x256) but the system is fater with 512 and bigger overclock, certainly no slower anyway.
Maybe once I move to a fater graphics card ill notice more of a difference as I will be able to use bigger textures.

I guess that makes sense, I've never tried running one stick alone!... When I get this new ram I'm going to bench using 1 stick, post all my scores (bragging rights!, ha ha!) then go back to using both sticks for normal use.

Im trying to get top ten for 9800pro with only watercooling, so every point helps at the moment. Going to one stick gained my 5fsb, and although I didnt get loads of points as 256 is slower than 512. Running one 512 for 3dmark would definately be better than two (for single channel 754 that is) your FX needs 2 sticks for dual channel.

11-26-2004, 06:38 AM
I could still run it single-channel with one Dimm at a much higher FSB though... Can't I?...

Well what are those chips you people think? It behaves pretty much like good old BH-5 by all means... And now Mushkin released LvlII Black series again..
Could it be that the BH-5 production back in business..?

No It means Mushkin can use the TCCD chips to replace RMA BH-5 chips and sell the bh-5 chips for a profit.
OCZ isnt using the bh-5 chips but may do a limeted edition in the same way mushkin has

What a busy thread,
Just so you guys all know , I am trying to figure out whats wrong with the prices in europe .
ryan price in europe usually goes this way:
price in USA $ = price in EU €...but 1€ = 1.32$....so 32% higher by default + margain of resellers/pc stores
wanna know price for OCZ EL REV2 in my country SLOVENIJA?
430-440$ for a pair!!!!
can you do something about it ?
Hardwarefreak
11-26-2004, 12:51 PM
btw. it's cheaper to buy the memory from an US-online store.
I and 2 friends ordered them from excaliberpc and we have to pay about 225,- €/per person(with taxes and custom and shipment)
The strong Euro is really nice :)
ryanpgroovy
11-26-2004, 12:55 PM
There are things we can do about it , and we will .
I want to note I did find a really good store in The UK that seems to price things more reasonably

Hardwarefreak
11-26-2004, 01:05 PM
United Kingdom have pounds no euro. If you pay things from there you have a bad exchange rate and have to pay the same costs of shipment as from USA.
btw. you get rams faster from USA
@
I don't want to displease you but that's economy - European companies are nervous, because they can't export their products (because it's to expensive in the USA), the only advantage is that imports are cheaper.
Edit:
Two year ago 1 € was just 0.88$
the US products were much more expensive
could you do a few benches with looser timings and fsb above 280 (939 dual channel please :) ?

hopefully they will do the same or better than your BH sticks. If so I am thinking of selling my BH-6 for these.
ryanpgroovy
11-26-2004, 02:42 PM
I will try and find a NF 2 that will handle the voltage , but try and remeber NF2 with 2x512 was never really a ram problem but instead a memory controller problem, so if you have BH-5 I am not sure upgrading to these is the right path
I will give it a whirl though

Thanks a lot Ryan. I appreciate it. I understand about the chipset being limited however I am still curious. Second of all I am wanting to go 939 but am not happy with the current board selection. As soon as DFI releases their board I may jump the gun. I figured having the ram now would save me down the road as long as they can at least keep up to my 2 x 512mb kit on my current board until then. I am worried of yields changing and getting crappier chips or no chips down the road if things change.

yack 240-245 isn't nearly as good was I was hoping for. When these actually hit the market I hope to see lots of postings on performance. Again it seems like a lot inconsistency on what these chips can do.
hmmm just noticed.... this was on a NF3 150 board? Perhaps that has something to do with it?

The modules are pretty consistent at the moment, your seeing a difference on boards as boards overclock the ram, some boards are better than others.
On the NF2 front i doubt these will do any better if you but 2x512 as the chipset as mentioned is the issue. We are considering 256 modules so you NF2 lovers can play also but you have to remember 256's are a limited market.

Thanks for the response bigtoe. Appreciate it. I am not wanting to stick NFII forever. I only have it cause I don't wany other board but the DFI 939 so until it's available I will stick with what I have. I was thinking of getting the ram early in case yields change and down the road they don't clock as well. As long as they can do what my BH-6 can do I won't lose any speed until the mean time.
If modules are pretty consistent at the moment then it may be worth getting some. By consistent do you mean anyone with a good clocking board should be able to get 260+ 2-2-2 like you, ryan, eric and steve were showing on an amd platform?

Here in Norway a gig of this VX sells for about 275 euros (no, we don't use that currency, but anyway) at www.netshop.no That's not too bad, as it is cheaper than the EL Rev. 2 atleast :)
let's see
1. divorce your wife
2. dump your girlfriend
3. give up your 1st, 2nd and 3rd born children
4. castrate yourself
should prevent you from all other distractions to dedicate your life to memory testing :)

Is a 2x512mb VX kit cheaper than the 2x512mb Gold EL LE PC4400 kt? I really want 250mhz CL2.2.2.5 on my s754, and aside from BH-5 RAM, these look like the only OCZ RAM that can deliever that.
I have forgotten all about the Platinum Rev2(will not even match my old Geil, it would seem, by far), as these look like the future OCZ product to get for me. Gonna get an OCZ Booster in a few days, so I don't have to upping that 3.3v line too much(+5%).
When are these RAM gonna be available for your OCZ friendly stores in Denmark?
Ryanpgroove/Bigtoe - These have been tested on s754 platforms, right, and work perfectly? DFI NF3 250gb? Even in a 2x512mb setup? Will give 250mhz CL2.2.2.5 T1 with high voltage under booster?
I am so excited about these RAM. I should have looked at this thread when it was started.
Is it possible for you to ship directly to a certain Danish store? They have alot OCZ products in advance. They agreed to trade the Gold PC4400, so if I can trade clean to these ones, I will be in heaven :)
EDIT: Just saw that some of the high benches with CL2.2.2.5 was made on a s754 platform. Damn I hope these ones work with my setup. I am ecstatic over this OCZ product.
I know you OCZ guys are busy and all, but is there a chance I could send the PC4400 directly to you and trade them clean for these XV RAM? Just wondering :)

seems swapping the modules around in the same dimm 1+3 slots ocs better
240mhz 3-2-2-8 is with stick 1 + 2 in dimm 1+3
memtesting right now at 250mhz 3-2-2-8 16T at 3.6v better than before so stick 2+1 in dimm 1+3 respectively
Can't wait to move to my AMD64/DFI board since this is what the ram was optimised for.

Alright guys , I scaned a look at the yeild results from the batch testing of the first large production run ,
looks like on 875 most of these should pass 2.5-2-2 at 240 , and higher on A64 , soryy it took me so long to get you any idea on 875 results
of course your mileage may vary , but not bad for Pc-3200 with a decent price

As far as I can tell we only test them in house to 2-2-2 240 on a64 @ 3.3 volts , looks like the ones that fail at that get put into a batch for restesting for a value product

ProMOS 5B Chips + Brainpower PCB = OCZ PC-3200EL Gold VX (http://www.promos.com.tw/website/html/english/img/product/selection_guide.pdf)
If this is the case, there are a few other manufacturers that have already been using these voltage-loving chips on their modules.
EDIT:
If you recently purchased a set of PQI Turbo (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-141-152&depa=1) modules, I'd like to know if you were able to run in the 240MHz to 260MHz range with 3.3VDIMM or more.

how much difference would the new VX ram be compared to my EB if both were ran at 3.2v+ ???
reason I ask right now at 3-3-2 the EB does OK on my asus which is voltage limited but if I went to a NEO plat. mobo and OCZ booster I could put more voltage to my EB and lower timings to 3-2-2 and up my FSB into the 260-270 mhz range, maybe even 290mhz **crosses fingers**
so at 260-270 mhz will the VX be able to hit 2-2-2 ?? and will lowering the CAS from 3 to 2 make that large a difference???
thanks for your reply.

Ok, so you say no.
Anyone listing the next candidate so that Ryan or Tony say no again...
... and so on...
... until we find out the last remaining chip which will be the right one :D
It could be anything(obviously not, but it could be unknown chips, or some new technology deployed) and OCZ probably relabels them. If I had to see this with OCZ' eyes, I wouldn't say what they were, even if the guess was partly or completely true, as Gskill and alot others would do the same within asap. I would keep it a secret, but that is just me.
I think, these RAM will hit the OC retail marked with force of one those old tested USSR 65MT H-bombs. BH-5 got a contender and a very fine one for AMD64.
Dastardly chips regardless. What is the full product code for these RAM?(for reference with retailer in Denmark)

Just wondering, if you had some VX working at say 250 at 2-2-2-x, would that give an equivilant banwidth/superpi time etc... if you were running RAM at a higher FSB, say 270/280 but at slacker timings like 3-3-3-x? Just wondering how much the tighther timings compensate for the not quite as high FSB?
Also, when you say 'burning in', do you simply mean running the RAM under constant pressure, say in memtest, for long periods of time?
Also, I'm deffo getting some of this stuff, be running it on my DFI NF2 till the new year, then I'll be making the jump to 64bit! Looking forward to it!

Good I will wait to hear results from you guys to decide on this. Might be better than TCCD I have if I can get decently low timing around 250-270FSB range.
trans am
11-30-2004, 04:03 PM
These should be awesome for 754 rigs where high speeds is an issue with 2x512 and 939 cpu's that have a hard time running tccd at high speeds due to mem controller.

Just ordered mine, hope it works well with an Nforce2 board for the time being till I go to 64 bit, I couldn't be bothered to wait for other people to try it out first so I though, sod it. Hope I can get 250 2-2-2-x.
Any idea on this question anyone?

Can OCZ do anything about the price gouging? Especially for overseas people, paying over $300(us) for something that has an msrp of $250~ is ridiculous.

One thing and only thing I am worried about now is... do you guys plan to speed bin this and making something else again? I hated when that happened with 3200 EL plat rev2... (4200EL Plat took all the good potential out). And if you do, it would be nice for XS members to know a little ahead of time so they can hold off on purchase instead of jumping blindly in when time comes for lower binned 3200VX.

I'll be honest with you, folks. For some reason, purchasing these VX modules was a very stressful event for me. I've vested interest in this RAM since Ryan first introduced them to us. When I was a kid, I remember how my Mom promised to take me to the swapmeet on Saturday morning to purchase my Lionbot aka Voltron. I couldn't sleep the night prior to that Saturday morning. I had the same exact feeling today. Peep my posts from earlier today. I've been up since 7:00am anticipating eXcaliberPC's release of the VX. You have no idea how I felt when the price I saw on the site was at $284.00 - and I felt like puking when I read what trans_am wrote about only 10 kits being in stock.
So, it's been a roller coaster ride today. I have the day off on Friday and the FedEx homie always knocks on my door before 10:00am. Sorry, wife. I'm spending quality time with my PC this weekend. Here's $284.07. Go shopping with the girls and leave me in peace. :D

Well actually if you like memory errors then don't use a fan or good ventilation. The choice is yours. :)
Actually the Booster can have issues when overheated, so cool it as Steve said. ;)
Even I knew that. Why I mounted a 12cm fan 2 inches from the RAM. Gotta love the Lian Li V series for their upside down approach to everything. My RAM had been smoked ages ago if I hadn't. Cool to touch though :D
