In my X800XT-PE system, HL2 recommended using Water - Reflect world. Since I could some more quality over fps, I tried reflect all, BIG DIFFERENCE. Anyway, there's some impact on fps, but it's ok for me.
Graphic detail: 1600x1200, 4xFSAA 16xAF, all max.
Click on the image for full size pic, and you'd see the fps better.

Both of those pics look very nice. Makes me wish I had a x800.

Look closely in the corner. Looks like it goes from 69 to 57. Mmm, HL2 is nice.

o yea, thats 4XAA?? still looks a little no jaggy to me....
You need to turn everything all the way up in the game and on the video card itself:d I do and I run it at 1280x1024 and I keep a 60FPS all the time pretty much.
jeez. time to upgrade the rig. my xpm @2.5g and the 6800gt @def sure don't hit it anymore... i remember that screen up there.. i was running 1024 with the all options maxed, only aa was at 2x (imo).. and i had ~50fps (with reflect all)... sometimes less.
anyway.. on my rig i get fps from low/mid 40's up into the 200's in some parts.. hm.. a64 time, i guess.
yea those A64's just destroy the xp's in gaming. I'm just waiting for SLI to come out so i can get one of those boards and a 90nm 64. I'm hoping these first boards won't be too buggy.

I use net_graph 3 with net_graphpos 2
cl_drawfps 1 is what he is using I think
yup good thing with the console in this is that it comes up with a list of commands once you enter the first letter. add more letters and the list narrows down - and you can scroll through it. pretty neat. and yea cl_drawfps 1 it is
you could also use fraps, but when a built-in function is available, i'll use it instead of another program.
/edit
cl_showfps x is the actual command, where x = 0 -> off, = 1 -> fps, = 2 -> smooth fps (whatever that is)
