So I just beat it, took me about 13 hours. I thought the ending was really good up untill the last 5 min once you talk to the gman. Then I got pissed off. It's not so much that they didn't explain anything, it's that nothing at all happened. Alyx didn't die, she didn't live, no one escaped, or didn't escape. Whats going on. To me it seemed like the whole thing was just a game withen a game the gman was playing with me. I got the same feeling I would have had at the end of the game had I woke up to find it was all a dream. I loved everything in the end, up to the talk with gman. Then everything just fell flat. When he first came I literally did open my mouth in awe, and then I slowly shut it as I was let down.

What I really don't like too, is that they don't have the story written all out, and make the games in sequence. Valve does not know what is going to Happen in HL3. Sure they leave it open, but... It just dosn't leave me with a good feeling, because while I'm sitting there thinking "I wonder what is gonna happen to..." Valve is sitten there saying "I wonder what we should make happen to..."

I would give this game a 10. It is one of the best games I've ever played. Great atmosphere for a first person shooter, great story. It would translate well into a movie even. But the way the left you hanging is crap. I'm fine with them leaving me hanging, I was expecting it, but not like this.

I completely agree with everything you said. I really don't think that Valve's story writers have sat down and actually written an entire Half-Life story line from start to finish. It seems more like an episodic type of thing. It's like they just wrote the "next episode" in a recurring them where Gordon wakes up, is thrown into a situation to save the people and then he gets put back to sleep by the G-man. While it's fun to speculate about what the "real" story is, i'd have preferred to find out a lot more during this game. Hopefully they don't pull this crap with HL3. I hope that with this Steam delivery system, they continually put out more content, more episodes to the story, or something.

Yeah my friend said that gabe said they are making an expansion where you play from alyx's perspective. But like Blue-Shift and Opposing forces, I doubt it willexplain anything more. With the first Half-Life this was fine, but this game is alot more story driven, so I expect there to be one. And I'm fine with expansion packs, as long as they arn't short cash in's which I felt Blue Shift was, that took me I think about 2 hours to beat, and it had nothing new :(

And I love guessing about the story, whats going on etc, but it just seems like a complete waste since really, there is no answer because it hasn't even been decided. I mean, people hint that the gman is gordan from the future (they completely made it up of course), but what if they had told us that at the end of HL2? There are still tons of other things to wonder about, thats not even a big thing, yet even with a simple fact like that, I would have felt some reward for having beaten it.
