hi OC'ers,
recently i destroyed my m/b, an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, in an attempt to overclock my 3.0c to 4 GHz (used 1.65v according to my DMM, BIOS reading was MUCH higher). A MOSFET to the left of the CPU socket burned down.
I think i'm gonna RMA the board, but i have one problem: the board is vmodded!
Now what am i going to do?
tnx,
Simon-Paul

remove the vmod of course :p:
carefully...
don't think you should / could RMA the board anyway. You knew the risks of vmodding and invalidating your warranty... Regardless of whether you could remove the vmod carefully enough as to pass ASUS's inspection, you shouldn't do it anyway. :) Morals and values of our society :p:

You lost your warranty when you Volt modded the board....if you aren't willing to take the risks involved with overclocking and volt modding, you should be running stock hardware. It's really that simple.
You are asking us to instruct you on how to cheat ASUS out of a mobo that you destroyed by overclocking it?
I'm pretty sure that this forum does not want to become involved with an effort to defraud hardware manufacturers.

...or put some decent heatsinks on your mosfets. All of my motherboards have mosfet heatsinks and I have no problem.

For sure...they are needed as they do get very hot! Maybe you can find a dead mobo to rob for parts?

if i want to buy a new Socket 478 board, which one do you recommend? The board has to have good O/C capabilities (i'm building a phase change rig), IEEE1394 would be nice, and i can't afford a expensive board like the one i had.
what do you think?

get a really cheep p4c800 without the extra stuff on ebay and fix your board.... or try to find that mosfet and fix it...
the only 2 good o/c boards are the p4c or ic7

IC7-G is a pretty nice board. Basicly a IC7-Max 3 minus the price upping stuff. Regular P4C800 is pretty good.
