yeah thats nice and high for one of them chips. What kinda cooling was it under? But 4.2ghz is nice...o'well...these new Prescotts seem to be running kinda cool (compared to the older models) so maybe one of them would be nice to get. A nice new Prescott....

Max VID for a 3.0e (.09 micron) is 1.4v.
Absolute maximum (non functional voltage--the chip should not receive a clock at this voltage) for these chips is 1.55v.
You exceeded this, so you were definitely asking for trouble. Regardless of the cooling setup....Just because you keep an overvolted CPU cool does not mean that it won't degrade or die.
That plus the overclock...jeez that thing must have been drawing about 165W (extrapolated)...
my 3.2E ES running 4400mhz now for 8-9 months running phasechange using 1.6v. without a hic up. i think that before anyone ocs thier cpu they should be prepared to buy another one if they blow it up. sorry to hear about your loss man but just chaulk it up to the experiance and move on. many many more cpu's to kill man your just getting started cheer up :)

@jjcom
I was running it under my vapochill lightspeed, and the evaporator went up to -30C under full load, so I think it ran quite hot, btw then I was running it aircooled it went up to 75C @3.75ghz 1.6v :)
@perc
this was my third dead cpu, but if you want to run it fast you have to count that some dies, it's life :D
