For the CDRW and DVD drives, I highly reccomend Lite-On. The 16x DVD drive is simply amazing at ripping audio and DVD, and features a UDMA33 interface. I own one of these :) and it's great. You can get modified firmwares, too. (region free etc)

The 52x CDRW just come at the market. The 48x is a very good drive too. Or maybe you want to look at the Yamaha F1 CDRW wich is able to make "tatoos" on the surface on the CD.

On the other things, let's let the experts speak :)

For the cd burner, the yamaha F1 or the last Plextor. Not because of the name of the manufacturer, but they DO burn with better quality than other (with maybe Teac).
Chosing such a computer is not easy since the hardware is upgrade faster than the cash flow from your bank account, though..
PIV 2.8 HT, r9700 pro from gygabite, good DDR from Geil or Corsair.

And things we sometimes forgot...a good soundcard... I've chosen the Terratec DMX 6fire, but if you are hardcore gamer, an Audigy II will suit you more. For the Loudspeaker, I don't know if that can be found where you live, but Videologic Sirroco Crossfire is the best 4.1 system, and the Videologic digi Theatre DTS one really good home theatre setup avalaible (imo,, it beat in pure sound quality some low budget hifi combo).

For the other component, I don't know, I'm kinda a normal user when it come to talk about prometea thingy:D

I have the latest generation Seagate 15k U160/320 SCSI on my machine with a Tekram (LSI) card. I can tell you that SCSI is the single biggest performance enahncer that I've ever experienced among thousands of dollars of upgrades. I just love it. I work with Office all day at work on my laptop and then do gaming etc at home on the SCSI.

That said, I have a WD 80GB SE and it honestly gets close to the SCSI's performance. It's very quick.

The Seagate Drive has no temp problems either. Sometimes it's hard to even tell if it's warm at all. Makes a little bit of noise, but not too bad at all. Not quite as silent as the WD. But that's a subjective call.

Well, I'd start off with the two most important items which are not on your list :-

monitor
chair.

Once you have these essentials sorted out then you can work backwards from there.

Personally I use a very comfortable multi-adjustable office chair which can be sat in for 10 hours constant without bad back or aching arse.

Regards

Andy

Hmmmm.... seems the big boys aren't replying to this one at the mo...

CPU - Intel P4 2.8 or 3Ghz (when it's released)
MOBO - ABit IT7-Max2 rev2, or latest Epox
COOLIN- Prometeia
MEM - 1x Single stick 512Mb Corsair or OCZ PC3500
HDD - For speed, Maxtor D740 or WD Caviar SE 8mb Cache.
For solidity and silence, Seagate Barracuda IV.
Run 2x 100Gb in a Raid 1 array, create a 1Gb Partition
first and set Windows swapfiles to there, then create
rest of partitions however ya want, and install games
to there, and 1x 40Gb for Win Installation and misc
software.
CD/DVD - Pioneer DVR104 or 105, and the Yamaha F1.
VID - Radeon9700 Pro rev1.3 or above (Ultimate Edition)
SOUND - Creative Audigy 2
SCREEN - Iiyama 19" TFT AU4831D

That's the main stuff... get a good cordless keyboard & mouse... the Logitech ones aren't bad. Invest in a Microsoft Force-Feedback Steering Wheel n pedals, and get a good gamepad.

From what I understand, XP and SCSI has problems.

Good thing 2k is best anyway.

So you are saying 3 drives with Windows having it's own drive? How much performance increase would there be with windows on it's own drive? Also, I've been trying to get info on partitioning like that. I was going to use Partition magic to set up my 2x120GB WD RAID 0. If you create the first partition as a 1GB (would more help? I've got plenty extra...) and then create the other partitions, what drive would Windows get installed to (assuming I only have my raid 0 setup)? Would it be installed to D: instead of the default C:?

About the SCSI and win XP interfereing. From what I understand, WinXP and SCSI makes for horrible Random Access times. It still dominates with sequential reads, but when doing little stuff, scsi and winXP don't like each other.

Google turned this up:

Hence the third drive. First thing you do is put one drive in and install windows, guaranteeing you have c: as root. Once Windows is on and setup with drivers etc you setup your RAID Array. Once back up into Windows, go to Administrative tools, grab yer Raid array and create a 1Gb Partition. You don't want an excessive swap file as ram is faster than your disk, so when benching you want as much ram free as possible for 3DMark to play with. I generally then setup a 700Mb swap on the 1Gb partition. Reboot, then defrag the swap partition and the windows drive. Now partition the rest of your array as u see fit... Try and install any benching programs onto the Raid array, as then it's quicker extracting textures out of the 3DMark *.ras files.
Keep that partition well defragmented as well.

I abandoned SCSI a long time ago. Tried it, benched it and it scored pathetically compared to what it should. Slapped in a UATA100 drive, and it beat the SCSI straight away... since then it's just caused more hassle than it's worth so I stick with IDE...
