I want to get around 3.5-3.6 on air. The memory I want to use is OCZ. But i'm not sure which one is better to overclock with to get those clock. A lot of people have success with PC3200 Platinum Rev 2. But is it better to go with something like PC3500? Which one would give me a higher overclock. And why is the PC3200 so much more expensive than the PC3500 regular edition. Note, i'm a newb to overclocking.
You meant to say 2.5-2.6 right? They're doable with good air cooling. The 3200EL Rev2 is more expensive because they're using the Samsung TCCD chips, and they're very overclockable. Over 270Mhz with them is very commom.

u might even get 3ghz on good air. good air...good air...like opening your window in winter time. :D

You wont get 3ghz stable on air without subzero room temps. 2.8-2.9ghz with a really good chip maybe.

Sorry my mistake I did mean 2.5-2.6. Ok, so the 3200 is better to overclock with than the 3500? Because I thought the higher the default bus speed for ram, the more flexibility you have with overclocking.

the difference is with the 3200 u have the use of one higher multiplier 11x, vs. the 3000s highest multi is 10x

3000+ has up to 9 actually. The 3000+ Northwood has up to 10.
for Winchesters....
3000+ <=9
3200+ <=10
3500+ <=11
Slight hijack..hope you dont mind :)
Does the 3000+ or the 3200+ have consistent higher clocks?

... Northwood...
hehe, Northwood :p:
There's a VEGAN on the board! j/k :p:
Anyway..I am about to buy a 3200+ Winchester...how high could I expect on a Koolance water system?

bout the same as the 2.5-2.6 air OC's; Koolance doesnt buy you anytihng over $50 Thermalright + fan

I want to get around 3.5-3.6 on air.
Its interesting to note that although it was a mistake and Freya acknowledged this, a 2.5/2.6 on an A64 is actually running at well beyond 4 Ghz Intel performance wise. (I'd guess about 4.5 Ghz or in the range)

My 939 3000+ can hit 2400MHz StressCPU stable, but only with a high vcore of 1.65v :(
